Chipset + PWMIC Too Hot!

They're at 45C ish on idle and shoot up to 70C on load.

I have a DFI Lanparty SLI-DR board and I put the vantec HSF on there from the stock. My CPU is watercooled but I have a 120mm intake fan on the back and a 120 rear exhaust.

Any thoughts on how I can cool em down?
 
your intake 120 is on the back? with the exhaust?

the pwmic is the area in between the cpu and the power/ide connectors so that wouldn't be getting any air. and you knw where the chipset is below it so thats going to be sucking for cool air as well.

you can try the zalman fan bracket or make something similar to hang a 92mm or 120mm fan over that area.

you need some better case air flow i'd say. your idle seems a little high but not bad. the load is way to high for the chipset. the pwmic is said to be good to 100c +.

btw, i'm assuming your vga is watercooled also?
 
wow, i have an ultra-d in an antec slk3000 which has a like fan configuration and i'm not getting anywhere near those temps. no overclock though.

just checked- 36c pwmic and 41c chipset running just some rosetta/simap. my front intake is a sanyo 120x25mm running ~1400rpm.

of course, its just a folding/media box so it only has a little ati300 card in there, passively cooled.

can you get a low rpm 120mm or 92mm fan to blow over that area?
 
whats the vantec, the iceberg? i got one but never installed it. i use the stock with as5 on my boards.

well, i'd be less concerned about the pwmic than the chipset. are you sure its making proper contact? it can easily rock as you know. i'm just graping here so don't get insulted 😛

My chipset/PWM IC temps are ridiculous on my DFI Ultra-D. The chipset can get up to 52C under load, and the PWM IC can get as high as 53C under heavy load after a few hours. This is with an X2 3800+ @ 2.4ghz. With the Opteron 165 I was testing, the PWM IC got up to 61C under load when dual-priming @ 2.52 ghz.

I spent hours playing with fans, etc. I put a small copper heatsink on the PWM IC chip, didn't do a thing. As long as the CPU is stable, I wouldn't worry too much about the PWM IC temps.

Also, as far as the chipset temps go, I dropped my load temps by 5C just by installing an NV Silencer on my highly clocked 6800GS.

thats why i wondered if the vga was watercooled as well.

my silencer made a big defference for me as well.
 
Just to see if it makes a difference, I'd open your case up, and put some sort of desk fan or whatever pulling the warm air away from the video cards and chipset. See if it drops the chipset temp, if it does, maybe there would be some sort of way to rig up some good cooling for your video cards.
