Chipset life

I've finally got the time to stretch my chipsets limit rather than my CPU. I understand overclocking generally shortens the CPU life(yes, yes i know this isn't always true, but its still a fact), however what about chipsets? i currently use the nforce 400 ultra, are the overcloking settings in the bios withing certain specs of the chipset itself, or is it determined by the mobo maker? will running it way beyond specs burn out the chipset eventually?

i definatly have overkill cooling* for it,even though it naturally runs hot even at stock speeds. i never noticed much of heat difference between stock and overclocked, but still.

any input would be great, i'm shooting for 450mhz+

Overclocking your chipset is just like overclocking your processor. Running it over it's rated speed doesn't hurt it at all, unless you have to raise the voltage (the chipset voltage is called vdd in the bios). The more you raise the voltage, the less time whatever you raise the voltage to is going to last.

rising the voltage is asumed :)

i guess i was just hoping maybe they acount for it now adays for overclockers. i'll do it either way, heh.

i got 450mhz already with stock northbridge voltage, i'm not sure how much further my 400 Geil ram will go though.

since this thread got answered rather quickly, people should post their high FSB settings so i have an idea of what the bartons are good for.

It really depends on the processor, the board, and the memory. But it looks like you already have a good OC'ed rig so why do you want another?
