Chipset & Fan problems on Asus a7v133

I just got the Asus A7V133 revision 1.04 with out audio, and I can't make the fans on the chipset and CPU work, the just don't. I connected the properly ( seems to me) with the "borders" right outside of the (stick), I don't think there is any other way to connect them is there? If you could please explain me how to fix that?

Unless you got really creative (or violent) with them, fan headers should only connect one way.

Does the board POST? Do any fans at all spin up? (ie the power supply, front case fan)

Viper GTS

I was not violent, there were quite easy to plug in.
None of the fans, besides powersupply fan which is not linked to the motherboard works. any suggestions?

P.S. and system does POST and I can access BOIS.

does the green LED on the board come on? Does it make any noise?

Make sure you have the power supply plugged into the mobo 🙂🙂🙂

Sounds like you got a board with bad fan headers... what fan did you plug in? They can only handle like 4W.

sounds like you need to get some 3pin to 4 pin adaptors 🙂 It would be cheaper than frieght to RMA the board unless you can return it to the place of purchase without shipping it.

3 to 4 pin adapters? why would I want them? the fan headers have only 3 pins, then why 4 pin adapters for?

3 to 4 pin adapters would let you plug the fans into the 4-pin Power Supply connectors.

Also, 4.2W is the max for the A7V133 fan headers.

thx, but is there ANYTHING else I could try? I mean, I can't even start working with my computer with my fans off... CPU is going to be overcooked in 10-15 minutes. And that big ugly fan (like 25 inches in diameter) I use right now too cool down the computer is driving me crazy. And I sounds like an airplane 🙂
I can't stand it anylonger, gotta fix that but don't know how - it seems alright to me. I can't even imagine what POSSIBLY isn't working.

Anyway, is there some techsupport or some special manual for that kind of problems with hardware?

P.S. could it be that main powersupply doesn't give enought energy for two fans (just an idea)? though its only 0.2 mA and 12V as usual for CPU fans...

Guys, I really need some help around here.... needless to say that the huge ugly fan is too damn lound and windy to sit by. I feel like the tornado is coming, and the most amazing thing is that my Athlon temperature is ~50 when runnig on normal specs ( 1.2 GHZ/266) which is not cool at all.

I'm not sure how you survived getting into the bios without a fan, but don't push your luck! Your heatsink must just be letting you get that done.

Look, you have a hardware problem. Your motherboard is broken. You can either get it replaced, or use a workaround. That workaround is to convert all your 3-pin fan headers to 4-pin molex connectors that you can plug directly into the power supply.

Yep, it's called RMA'ing the board. You just send it away for their technicians to fix/replace.

What kind of power supply do you have?

I take it that this is a new system?

Yes it's a new system.
Actually this is my first system that I am building by myself.
The power supply is generic, and I have requested the specs.
By the way the 4 pin connector you are talkin' about is the same connector that I use to powerup hdd, cdrom, etc? is it like that.
And last thing, You say that the motherboard is broken but how comes that the fan pin is the only thing that does not function properly?

You may have just received a board that has bad fan headers. It happens. Did you try to plug a high output fan into the chipset fan header also? If you did, you may have burnt out the fan headers yourself. It does not really matter what happened at this point. The fact is that your fan headers do not work. Your options are to either RMA the board and get it replaced, or just buy a couple of 3 to 4 pin adapters and plug the fans into your power supply. Even if you get a replacement board, use the power supply connectors for running high output fans. The small chipset fan will be no problem plugged into the mobo. I would also be very careful not having a fan on your processor heatsink. You just may end up with a fried bird. 🙁

What chip are you using on this? You will need a good sturdy PSU if you're running 1GHz+. Bad bad one probably didn't cause this problem, but it could cause general system instabilities (i.e., random lockups) that are near impossible to diagnose as a power problem. If you have a shakey system down the road, remember your power supply..

Back to the matter at hand, yes, the 4-pin connector (called a molex) is the same one that plug into your hard drive, cdrom, etc.
