The fan on my VIA chipset (Soyo k7vta) is getting noisy and is really getting on my nerves. It's a small fan and I can't find a replacement. Anyone know of a source.

Could I just run the VIA chipset with only the heatsink and eliminate the fan? Or is there someway to adapt a larger fan i.e. a cpu fan to fit the smaller heatsink?????

Any help appreciated.

Remove the fan and remove the sticker from the underside that covers the fan pinion, and put a tiny bit of oil on it, let it work in, wipe away the excess, and reinstall the sticker/cover. If you are'nt overclocking too much you could run without the fan. Not all motherboard makers supplied their units with fans anyway's.

pinecone have a look at the Zalman Northbridge Chipset Heatsink it's an "upgrade" for the stock unit you have and doesn't use a fan for cooling, but relies ongood case airflow to cool the chipset. Does this fit the bill?

I'm not sure about that motherboard, but I replaced the chipset fan on one of my motherboards, I believe that it was a 40mm (measure it to be sure). if there are screws on it, it should be a simple replacement.
