so i searched, found similar topics but not what i was looking for. and for a noob, hearing the exact answer is always the most comforting.
so i have the epox 8kda3j with a northbridge cooler that looks like this. it's undeniably loud. i would like to get rid of this noise. people recommend the zalman nb47, which runs passively. but before that, i was wondering if it would be adequate to unplug the chipset fan, put a case fan right up to it (or to the side or above or wherever close by) and achieve at least the same level of cooling as the stock fan? considering these 40mm chipset fans only push about 5cfm, i would think that an 80mm fan pushing 25cfm 3cm away from the heatsink would suffice...but i don't know. maybe the fact that it's 5cfm practically within the heatsink itself makes a difference. would someone care to inform me?
