Chips, Gum, and anything else that makes noise

Seriously.

You're in a restaurant. It's perfectly quiet. Some people are talking, some aren't, and all of a sudden some guy with a huge bag of chips sits down and tries to make as much noise as possible, on purpose, almost like there's a meter reading his noises and he's trying to break some book of world records record.

So loud, that people across the room, nearly 30 feet away, are jolted by the noise.

And then there's the gum chewers. At work. Its quiet. People are concentrating on their work. Yet someone decides it's a good idea to play music with their mouth and see how many loud pops they can let out in a 10 second period.

People suck.

so it bugs you when people eat in a restaraunt?

what i find funnier is in the movie theatre when people try to open a bag of candy all slowly and you hear them trying to do it for like 30 seconds and it's not really loud but you can hear it, but if they were to rip it open it would take like 2 seconds but would be a lot louder.

i've been guilty of that.

Well what other kind of restaurant has people that eat bags of chips? I've never been jolted by chip bags opening in a nice Italian restaurant. Any restaurant that has bags of chips to be opened probably doesn't sound like a library.

I generally try to time the opening of the chips/candy bag for an explosion or a really loud argument or a musical montage sequence. And if I'm watching a movie where there aren't any of the above, it's either so engrossing that I've forgotten to eat, or totally boring where I don't care if I annoy the other moviegoers.

Yes, yes we are.

I would say I'm pretty high stressed then.

I don't really think about it, but I do have really bad high blood pressure, and I'm only 24.

Eh, I was excited about interviewing with google/yahoo, which I did do, but after a bunch of back and forth neither worked out. Then I found my dream job in New York and I've been doing that since September. Love it. I think I'm more frustrated about other things.

Were you around in late 2005/early 2006? You wanna talk about improvement? Look at my threads from back then and compare to now

But I don't think any of this has to do with that. Had a really rough second half of the year.

My parents have said that since I was 3 years old, I was never able to sit at the dinner table with them. And noises like this have bothered me since.

But this thread isn't about me. It's about the general annoying sounds people make in public. Even my friends get annoyed when people chew like a cow =)

i've been guilty of that.

I always make a really obvious fake cough when I open my (contriban) can of soda. Of course, I never do that later than the beginning of the previews. Otherwise, I just wait until a really loud moment and go for it.
