He came over and said straight up "I am giving you a ticket for doing 80mph."

It's not a quote because they're not saying: you must write X amount of tickets. They're just saying that "you must write more than the average" amount of tickets.

Same thing, where X = "more than the average"

I seem to remember reading someplace that writing plenty of tickets was one way an officer could get noticed and/or promoted.

I thought quotas don't exists. Besides is illegal.

Based on your logic, rape, murder, and theft don't exist.

you can see or proof any of those 3. You cannot prove the CHP is meeting quotas.

there are quotas, it's been proven.

prove it

it may not be a "hard" quota, but they do exist. Say if you have an officer that writes 10 tickets a month for a year, don't you think they'd consider firing him or reprimanding him?

Here are some stories, not necessarily for california

"Do police officers have a quota?" I honestly have never heard of a department ordering (in writing) their officers to write a certain number of tickets in a given period of time. This job, however, is not unlike any other with performance standards. If I come in at the end of my shift with no paperwork, the boss is gonna wonder what in the world I was doing out there.

I'm sooo glad I wasn't driving the Fiero! I'd probably be getting a ticket myself!

Yeah, because driving 3 miles home and back to work, OF COURSE you would have to be driving like an asshole in your Fiero.

I seem to miss your point...???

hmm, you are right, that didn't make sense. I retract my statement.

I guess I was just pissed that the cop ruined the night.

Yeah, because the cop made you speed, and then had the nerve to pull you over for it. Yeah, HE really ruined your night.

Same thing, where X = "more than the average"

am I the only one who sees a problem with a system where all the cops are basically told, "you must all write more than the average number of tickets"?

Those lines had me wondering too, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks OS!
