chipped my tooth tonight

was eating Nachos when I felt a weird crunch in my mouth, I knew something was up so I went to look in the mirror, part of one of my mollars seemed to have chipped off in the front of the tooth. For like 1/4 of an inch I can see the filling, it doesn't hurt or feel sensitive, I've touched it and nothing. I'm not taking this lightly just because I don't feel any pain, my problem is I have no dental (no job right now) and I'm going to imagine this won't be cheap to get fixed. Should I be worried about getting to a dentist ASAP? It might sound like a dumb question but I don't know about things like infections and such. And right now my funds are next to nothing even if I get a job this week it will be 90 days until I get insurance. Paying for this will be a problem no matter how I look at it.

I know I can't wait on this too long, but what's the seriousness of getting it fixed? Might be too general of a question. I'm just wondering if I should be waking up tomorrow trying to borrow money, or could I possibly wait a week on it? I live in California so maybe I could get Medi-Care or some type of state aid. I really don't want this to get infected and I really don't want to be in any pain.

Also for now what signs should I look for? I don't think it's a big enough peice missing where my filling will fall out, but I'm far from a dental expert 🙁

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

My advice would be to get dental insurance. However, aside from that stupid advice, when one tooth goes the rest will follow. I wouldn't wait on it. I had all my teeth pulled out when I was 23 (4 years ago) and it started like you mentioned one chipped and then everything went to hell. Granted I probably am the worst case scenario.

Signs you should look for are teeth that are falling apart from the root (bottom) up. Near the one that broke will happen first. It may just be a chip and you don't need to worry, in that case its a cheap dentist visit (I don't know what you americans pay).

My philosophy is there are 3 things you don't play with, hearing, sight and teeth. I had to learn the last one the hard way. I hope everything works out for you and its just a chip, because fake teeth aren't pleasant.

I don't want to play around with this, but I have like 50 bucks to my name right now, if I find a dentist who will give me a free screening I have a feeling they will make it 10x more serious than it is, which is fine because I need to get it fixed. But that will cost money. hummm I guess I will call around tomorrow and until I get it fixed just eat mush and hope for the best 🙂

you can always come to Canada you can see my dentist for free. I don't wanna get into a political debate, so I'll just say get it looked at.

Find a local dental school. They will typically see you for significantly cheaper but a student might be doing your work and students might be watching.

You had dentures at 23 years old? :Q
Yeh.... that says mounds about the Canadian healthcare system. :Q

OP, get the tooth fixed. Find a way. If you wait the treatment may become more complicated and therefore more costly. Not to mention the inevitable pain that could come of it.

Get it fixed now, they only get worse if you don't, and therefore more expensive. It probably won't cost you all that much, even with dental insurance dental stuff is too expensive. They only cover $1000-$1500 a year anyway.
