Chipped core question

If the core on my athlon 750 is slightly chipped, would that result in the computer having random reboots?
I already switched power supplies, and it still happens. I tried using known good video cards and nics, but it still happens. So I've narrowed it down to the mobo or the processor. Im hoping its the athlon and not the mobo. Anyone have any input?

There is no set in stone answer. You'll have to find out by trial-and-error. Some people get away with chipped core fine. The unfortunates gets unstable system or completely inoperable processor.

what OS are you using?
if it's win2k/XP try uncheck Reboot on error so you'll at least be able to see what the problem is without the OS automatically rebooting on you.

<< That sounds like a side effect of a chipped core. >>

It could be one of the effect due to the chipped core. Is the system running well b4 the chip ? If yes...u know the answer. If no...try out another CPU in those setup.

i know a guy, tristan over at nvmax.com, and he chiped his t-bird in several places... and it still works perfectly for him, you may want to go ask him and see if he has any answers for ya..

We've had a badly chipped 1.33 Athlon in use for several months here. (In fact, it's now in my grandson's system.) It runs with no problems whatsoever under Win2K and WinXP and will overclock to 1.5GHz with the right mobo and proper cooling.
