Chinese typing in Word

This is a question for Word jockeys that type in Chinese. My mom is using Windows XP and I think Word 2000 or 2003. I recently changed her system, but I didn't reinstall Windows, so all of her settings and programs are intact. Before I changed her system, my mom said that there would be a little keypad that would show up at the bottom of the Word window which would allow her to type in Chinese. After changing out her system, its no longer there. Anyone got any ideas on how to type in Chinese? I already have the language and keyboard set to Chinese, so I'm out of ideas.
