Well for starters it wasn't a pandemic at that point. Yes South Korea did do a better job than ANY other country. Then again they are a small country with a 6th of the population. Since you think you are an expert on how we should have responded, and how fucked up it was. Instead of doing like South Korea what about if we had acted like Sweden? Which was quite different than South Korea.

China covered it up for months while it was spreading by people leaving China going to other countries. Unique virus we did not have a ready testing kit nor a certified treatment plan. It is much much harder to prepare, test and treat for 350 million than it is for 50 million.

I understand you just need someone to blame and Trump and administration is an easy target. If Trump and the administration's response was as bad and you claim we would have a few hundred thousand dead as the models predicted.

I never said no one could have done better. It is obviously a new Covid Virus and no one was fully prepared for it. South Korea got lucky and did things right for them. Italy, Spain, USA and most of Europe not so much.

How does this argument gel with the one about China lying about it for months?
A brand new virus breaks out that no one has any tests for and that has mild to moderate symptoms in most people, ans even when it gets serious takes a few weeks to get there. This virus breaks out in one of the most densely populated places and it breaks out when that dense population is having a national celebration that involves the population moving around.

Now it seems to me that you are expecting China to magically spot this new disease when there are only a few dozen cases in a massive population. When there are no tests and when the symptoms shown by most are very similar to common diseases that we all just live with.
And at the same time you are saying that the US (and a bunch of other countries including mine) couldnt have done any better in their response even though we knew exactly what was coming for us, how to test it and how to slow it down.

Fact it that we in the West dropped the ball on this, we can blame China to make ourselves feel better if we want. But all that time and energy spent arguing how it isnt our fault and its the big bad Chinese who are to blame isnt going to slow this down or stop our people from dying.

We are so used to playing political games of pass the hot potato that when reality comes up and punches us in the face, because reality doesnt care about our political shenanigans, we are left staggering in circles not knowing what to do.

Case in point Quibbles 'n Bits trying to rewrite history in real time because they realized its a lot more difficult to get away with it later and that's bitten them in the ass so much when they revealed how spectacularly stupid they can be (their take on the 2008 financial crisis might be the dumbest one I've seen from anyone, let alone from someone that doesn't admit they don't know jack shit about it; finding out they legit think they knew more about it than most people is one of the saddest/funniest things I've seen on here). China was still saying that there was no human-to-human transmission but these researchers knew better. They knew it was too grave/important not to release it, despite the repercussions.

They said there wasn't clear evidence of human transmission (whether they're lying about that or not, I do not know), and followed up saying that because it's a respiratory illness, that precautions still must be taken.

Heck, when a person has the sniffles and coughs, COVID or not, I stay the fuck away.
