Chinese Skaters' Ethical Practises need to be improved. (Men's specificially)

I mean did you see that... in the final? Not just in the final...
Canadian Skater Turcut(something like that) was also pushed down by the Chinese skater in the semi-final.
 
Not sure if it's just them, but something sure stinks in that result.

I'm a little upset about it right now, nothing to do though. Oh well.

I hope Apolo is not seriously injured and can continue. If I remember correctly he got out of the mess but then was grabbed/pushed/touched by another skater causing him to fall.
 
which event are we talking bout here? i'm on the west coast and NBC hasn't yet shown short or speed skating....

i'm guessing this is Li from the 1000m short track?
 
it wasn't Li's fault, at least so says MSNBC (i didn't see the event, so i don't know)

Li tried to pass on the outside, jostling with Ohno as both skaters fought for position. Li slipped out of the race about the same time Ahn Hyun-soo moved inside of Ohno.
It was a brazen move by the 16-year-old South Korean, considering there was hardly any room to pass. Not surprisingly, it sent bodies flying in all directions.
Ahn went down and took out Ohno and Turcotte. The American did a 360-degree spin and crashed into the padded boards back first.

Why Chinese Skaters? Not just that guy? Was there more than one Chinese skater? What about an American swimmer named Amy Van Dyken who likes to spit water into other swimmers' lanes? Would that make you say that American swimmers' ethical practices need to be improved(Women's specifically), or just that of Van Dyken's?
 
It's short track speed skating, get over it. It happens all the time, that's what makes it so fun to watch! Why dont you ban fighting from the NHL then? Those hockey players "Ethical Practises" need to be improved.

yeah if you're talking about the men's 1000m with apollo and the gang, I don't think it was the chinese skater's fault. There's another thread abuot that around here with a link to the msnbc story, and it seems like it was the korean
 
Ya, I thought the skater in the yellow suit(from Korea, I believe) put his hands on Ohno's leg. I don't know the rules, so I don't know if it's illegal to do such a thing while trying to break a fall, but... Oh well. The dude's young and he's got 3 more chances next week, I think.
 
It was the South Korean skater that fell and took out Ohno, not the Chinese skater. So far most of the Korean skaters have fallen in their races, even the previous Gold medal winner. Their coaches must be pushing them to be too aggresive because I find it hard to beleive that all these falls are mere coincedence or incompetence.

it's interesting, watching nbc, all you hear is how it was amazing he had the presence of mind to finish... flip over to cbc, and they're talking about how amazing it is that the canadian guy (bronze) had the presense of mind to finish. hehe...

While I certainly agree with your comments, don't forget that the Chinese women swim team was operating under a state-sponsored doping program for Some Time. The ethical parity argument IMHO doesn't hold water. Americans resort to such crappy practices as spitting in lanes and making asinine gestures to fellow competitors: really bad. State-sponsored doping, though: even worse.
 
I believe a chinese skater was disqualified in an earlier race because he grabbed turcotte's hip on the last turn, and made both of them fall.

Weird seeing an Aussie who was behind every one by almost half a lap win the gold medal in speed skating though eh? More power to him, but it's still odd...
 
From MBC - Korean equivalent to CBC

A few translated quotes from the article:

"At the turn of the last corner, Ohno and [the Chinese dude] were furiously fighting over the first place. Ahn found this a great opportunity (blah blah) and attempted to go for the gold."

Then the Korean source blames Ohno (in contrast to MSNBC's claim) for taking down both Ahn and the Canadian skater, Matthieu Turcotte.

(BTW, I haven't watched the game, so I have no opinions about this.)

Then the rest is the typical BS. Praises the Chinese for "presenting their mother country with their first Winter Olympic gold" blah blah.

Ooh! My dad is online. I should ask him what he thought about the race.
 
Ohno pushed the Chinese right try to gain advancement, but then once he surpass the Chinese guy the Chinese guy try to pull him back or push him. So Ohno fell of course, then the Canadian.
 
At least the women's race looked clean. I've seen 8 replays of the men's race and still can't decide how dirty it was.
 
i don't get this crud, during the relay skating the koreans took a fall and the entire race was restarted because they had to remove the injured korean. they then restarted the race from the start. i don't get why there has to be a severe injury b4 they do the fair thing and restart😛 the person that causes the fall of course is disqualified like the korean relay team😛

and yesit was the korean guy that screwed everything up, not chinese.

That's funny. The Koreans have their own video tape that keeps on replaying on national TV. It supposedly shows the Chinese dude (Li, I believe) pushing the Korean dude's leg with his arm. That's what my dad told me, at least. I'm yet to even watch any part of the Olympics.

During the last turn the Chinese guy grabbed Apolo's side, however that did not cause him to fall. Ohno shrugged off the Chinese guy, the chinese guy may have then caused the korean guy to start to lose his balance, I am not sure.

However the korean guy definately caused the major fall, and Ohno would've been ok accept he was grabbed by the Korean guy.
