Chinese place order for 150 Airbus jets.

Airbus is going to build an entire plant in China where these are to be produced.

I don't think Boeing was quite as willing make such a concession to land the order. When a native Chinese company starts putting out knock off A320s or derivitives in a few years, I won't be all that shocked.

Boeing sacrificed a short term gain to avoid a likely long term loss.

oh well... Bush wastes approximately $10,000,000,000 of our tax dollars every month in Iraq

Totally irrelevant to the OP, or are we bringing up Iraq in every thread now out of obligation.

The reason that I posted it was because I thought that some sort of Govt help might have been able to assist Boeing in landing that contract...but then I realized that our govt doesn't care when they waste this much money in a few weeks on a continual basis in Iraq..

You certainly should have noticed by now that it is the latter.

The article could have been about defective blenders and those comments would show up.

Like having the government force Boeing to build a plant in China?
Where is the outcry against offshoring?

Boeing's decisions actually helped protect American jobs.

Bush is a weakling.

China recently ordered 70 737s from Boeing.

If that was the only way the contract was to be sold then nobody should have accepted it.

But if the contract could have been cheaper and not put the manufacturing capabilities into the hands of the communists then it should have been done..

I think the Republicans are too busy worrying about covering their asses from all of the corruption they are involved in to even worry about the country.

That appears to be the case and your third sentance makes no sense.

Again, what would you have them do?

So then, Airbus sets China up to be a first class Aerospace manufacturing facility under liscense to build an Airbus Commercial version.

Didn't we just gp through this blunder with GM setting up Russia to be a Truck Manufacturing plant in the late 70's/early 80's ?

What did that do for the free world ? Russian made military equipment to invade Afghanistan with our assistance.

That is not the point you made, although I am surprised that your justification for the posting is as an advocate for corporate welfare.

As others have pointed out, perhaps Boeing chose to look past the short term gains to avoid China having access to other otherwise stealing their proprietary technologies.

Moderators, please don't lock this thread, as there is room for discussion beyond the predictable partisan flaimbate.

Seems our "pals" the Chinese will spend their money in Europe as well as America. Unfortunately the Chinese have a HUUUGGE trade surplus with America but have a virtual equal trade balance with Europe.

Wow. Hundreds of billions of dollars flying out of America and into China and they are flying on Airbus airplanes!

Err, you do understand that international relations are just one country screwing over another right? There will always be a huge trade deficit in favour of China (until their costs catches up with the rest of the world that is) because the US consumer want it so.

The usefulness of such a thread is the reason that it is not locked.

I am monitoring it and will start removing posts that become off the thread topic.

STAY ON TOPIC !!!

I think it's reasonable to argue that the US government is NOT friendly with China. Is it really all that surprising that China wants jobs . . . particularly manufacturing jobs? How many US states are currently paying/subsidizing foreign manufacturers so they build their products here . . . many of which will be sold to US citizens?

Sure, there's a certain degree of technologic superiority in the USA and Europe, but China is closing that gap quickly . . . plus they are investing heavily in the development of an exceptionally well-educated "army" of professionals in a myriad of fields.

At some point the Sinophilics need to see the light, we will either be partners (as in equals) with China or we will wage a long, low-intensity conflict of passive aggression with China. Arguably, the global economy wins with the former, while the latter is merely delaying the inevitability of China as a dominant global economic player and THE dominant military power of East Asia and the Western Pacific.

They only ways the Chinese have to close the techonlogy gap is to either buy it or brazenly steal it. They usually prefer the latter course since it is less expensive.

I see the chinese getting access to advanced aviation technology, and no longer being reliant on Russia for their aircraft derivatives.

Doesn't take much to retool a commercial jetliner into a long range bomber, it's already got the flight range,
just substitute payload for passengers, and cut in some doors in the belly structure.
They could build in one year more bombers than we have in the US inventory.

Could we stop them all ?
