What a ridiculous, hyperbolic statement. We dropped 7 million tons of bombs on Vietnam, 70 times the weight of a Nimitz, and that country was quite clearly not wiped off the face of the earth.

Yeah, I'm sure the strength and effectiveness of aircraft weapons hasn't changed at all in 40 years.

Now I know what an MSI designed aircraft carrier will look like. Thanks

aircraft carriers are dumb, big targets. how is it protected from someone dropping a bomb from high up in the air?

I'm pretty sure nobody has ever hit a moving ship from a bomber high in the air, even the US.
We had plenty of B-17 attacks on shipping, but no evidence of them ever scoring a hit.

Plus, the carrier carries....airplanes. You know, ones that can shoot down the attacking planes?

Well to be fair modern smart-bombs haven't actually had much opportunity to be tested against enemy navies, given US naval supremacy.

I bet we could nail a surface vessel from high altitude easily enough nowadays.

Nothing can touch the professionalism and power projection of the US Navy. If you have any doubts have a look at recent pics of US Navy/Marines assisting with the disaster recovery efforts in Philippines.

While carriers are well defended, they are far from invulnerable. Since WW2 there has been no one with the motivation and means to sink one. How many planes can the strike group intercept between the planes and the naval assets? Add 10 more to that number for your attack. Ten years ago no one was going to throw a thousand multimillion dollar jet fighters at sinking a carrier but with drones that might be a feasible idea. Defenses can be saturated with weight of fire and ECM.
