Chinese General Threatens U.S. Over Taiwan

Oh boy... lets hope we can pull ourselves out of this one in one piece. This part KINDA makes me feel better though:

Zhu stressed that he was expressing a personal view, not official policy, and was confident that China and the United States would not go to war, the reports said. While Zhu is a serving officer, he isn't involved in policymaking.

The United States has experienced its share of military officers who said rather troubling and sometimes downright stupid things as well. So long as the army remains under civilian control, one guy (even if it is a general) shooting off his mouth doesn't mean much.

Yeah, that is true. But the Chinese government has'nt went out of its' way to correct him.

The Chineese are building up to take Tawain by force in the next 2-6 years. You'll see more and more 'testing' of the waters as they try to determine just how far we'd actually go to protect them.

No big deal, this is what the chain of command is for. For what it's worth, I hope the free world backs Taiwan to the hilt.

I honestly say, let them have it if they want it. We don't need our noses over there. They had Taiwan for.. how long? Oh well, all I know is we don't need a nuclear war on our hands.

By 'testing the waters'... what do you mean? If we show enough force that we want to protect them, they'll back off? Or attack us too?
