Fats and sugars are two of the major ways to feel full. Sugars are much more temporary though as the high sugar level in your blood doesn't stay high for very long. Noodles and rice (as well as the chicken used in Chineese food) often lacks sufficient fat and sufficient sugar to make you feel full.

Thus you are stuck with the full feeling from one of the other fullness mechanisms (such as hormones, etc). The only one worth considering here is a full stomach. As soon as that food starts to digest, you'll lose that signal and feel hungry (even if it is shortly after you ate). Now if you had some additional fat you wouldn't have felt that way as it will keep you full for ~3 hours.

You should have had the egg roll as it is probably quite fatty. Or try one of the deep fried meat options in your chineese. In fact this thread is making me hungry for extra spicy orange chicken. I think I'll take my wife out for dinner to Chineese food.

noodles and rice ? Where's the meat ? Try a sesame chicken combo that comes with egg-roll or soup. Lay off the MSG though.

What's wrong with MSG? FDA put it in the same safety category as Salt (correct me if I'm wrong here). There is no evidence approriate amount of MSG is harmful.
Just not for everyone... people have reported getting headaches from it, and it's a proven migraine trigger for myself. I swear I wasn't meant to be born asian... no MSG and hate seafood.

BTW, from your link:
Between 1980 and 1994, the Adverse Reaction Monitoring System in FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition received 622 reports of complaints about MSG. Headache was the most frequently reported symptom. No severe reactions were documented, but some reports indicated that people with asthma got worse after they consumed MSG.
Surprised no reports of full-blown migraines.

There's this one chinese restaurant that triggered it the most for me (they must pour it on) since I went there every Friday for lunch... it finally hit me the those Friday afternoon migraines were caused by the food I was eating. I stopped going... migraines stopped coming. I do have it on occasion since I have to do some family outings involving celebratory dinners... can't help that... only thing I do is carry Zomig with me at all times. Migraines (and the white aura) are a killer.

Even the FDA (in the link above) says MSG has a rare headache reaction in a small portion of the population. If it doesn't give you a headache, then eat all that you want as it is quite safe. For those with headaches, do you avoid pretty much all foods with MSG or just Chineese? I couldn't imagine giving up tomatoes or any tomato based product.

I think it depends on the quantity. I actually eat at this one chinese take-out place now that claims no MSG and I've eaten there countless times there with no incident yet. You know what ? MSG is overrated. The chinese food tasted practically the same.

Cheese is also known to contain some MSG and there was one time where right after eating a Linguine Alfredo lunch, I had the white aura and nausea symptoms to a migraine. I went home early that day... barely made it as it was difficult to drive.

BTW, this is also interesting:
Under current FDA regulations, when MSG is added to a food, it must be identified as "monosodium glutamate" in the label's ingredient list. Each ingredient used to make a food must be declared by its name in this list.
While technically MSG is only one of several forms of free glutamate used in foods, consumers frequently use the term MSG to mean all free glutamate. For this reason, FDA considers foods whose labels say "No MSG" or "No Added MSG" to be misleading if the food contains ingredients that are sources of free glutamates, such as hydrolyzed protein.

My favorite at those cheap chinese american resturaunts is the sweet & sour chicken. This one place I go to has a dinner combo:
Sweet Sour chicken
Pork fried rice
Hot and Sour Soup

$6.50

MSG isn't the problem anyway. I read an article that Dihydrogen Monoxide is used to make rice in many chinese restaurants and the FDA, NOR THE HEALTH DEPARTMENTS DO NOTHING TO STOP IT!!!

That's just BS. The white (steam) rice is made in a steamer or rice cooker from rice and water, nothing else.

definitely. Its filth compared to real chinese food.
Definitely. Nothing like some authentic chicken feet, pig's knuckles, and cow tongue to keep you full.

A lot of people toss some a certain type of seawead in there for flavor (Konbu in japanese, not sure what in chinese), which is LOADED with MSG. Makes it taste much better :)
