So for a few seconds I thought I found an amazing deal. Then I realised it was half the price a 7970 goes for at the moment.

Have other people seen these things online? I am assuming they are very cheap cards rebadged? The seller has a very high seller rating. Surely people would notice and demand their money back?

Sketchy. They have a new 4GB 1050ti for $73.95. If it's too good to be true then it's probably not true.

Interesting..I'm from Australia anyway where I think they do ship.

I am thinking about buying one out of interest as much as anything. I am thinking about how I would prove its fake if it is indeed not the correct card.

They can label it a 980 on the outside easily enough. It should be huge amounts of effort to change what comes up on GPUz right? If it's a 950 its still going to have a 950 bios. Could they change it to make.it display as a 980?

Well something sure is screwy. Select the 980, and the title is for a 1060 and the description somewhere said 980/780TI for gaming. I wouldn't touch these unless I was prepared to throw money away

Ok, thanks. I know you are right but a little part of me wanted to try anyway. I would likely have to send the card back to get a refund which would probably cost me 80 or so easily.

There are a lot of fake Nvidia cards that are sold over internet (dont know about AMD, but suspect same as well). At least ebay you get some sort of protection. The seller may not even know if his items are genuine or not, but if its fake, you both suffer consequences. General rule, if its too good to be true, it probably isnt.

Clearly fake, GTX 1060 3GB for 100 Australian dollars? Plus Nvidia has a partner list of whom it sells chips to, I doubt some random Chinese firm has access to their chips. Either way I don't think GTX 1060 3gb chips are sold for less than $70 themselves, while their MSRP is $200, which would figure because AIB partners have costs to develop and put custom cooling, some have custom pcb's, the marketing, the shipping, etc... That surely costs $50-60 and of course they have to make a profit as well, with then final sellers like retailers having the final price margin.

I don't think it would be worth it for any firm to be selling 1060 3gb at less than $100 Australian dollars, its way too cheap.

Linus tech tips did an episode on this awhile ago. Ordered a few cards off aliexpress.

Got a 1080 that had the shroud from a 980 on it. Benched pretty much like a 1080 FE. They also got a 1060 5gb. Right? Apparently it is a China only SKU with a different memory bus. Super crappy cool on it, but benched more or less like you'd expect for a 1060.

The ones from the eBay stores definitely won't match the card listed (IE, the GTX 980 won't be a fully enabled GM204), but they very likely will meet the specs listed. You'll probably get 4GB of memory on a 128bit bus. The card itself might be a reflashed GT 740 though.

Then again, I guess that they could doctor ALL the specs in the BIOS, and these could really be 1GB cards, which in that case, would be a waste of time ordering them.

Even a 1GB *legit* GT730 / 740 / GTX650 can play some games, if it's the GDDR5 version.

Edit: Well, I bought one of the "970" cards with the supposed 4GB of 128-bit GDDR5, for around $45 shipped. We'll see if it has 4GB of RAM, and I'll give it to my friend to see if it will play Fortnight.

LOL. Well, it's pretty obvious that it won't be a legit 970 4GB. I'm hoping that it could be a 750ti 2GB or 4GB, and at the very worst, a GT730 with GDDR5, at least 1GB.

Here's another one, this one claiming to be a 750ti, pictures look identical.
Only this one is $115, and not $46.

If I get a 750ti with 4 real GB of GDDR5 for $46, color me a happy camper.

Take pics and post them up. If the ones there are accurate, I'm guessing it's not a 750Ti since I've never a GM107 card with an SLI connector. Maybe an old GK106 die, like a 650 Ti?

Meaning, in my mind, hacked BIOS - the card physically probably has 1GB, and the BIOS has been modified to show 4GB. Or it has NV HyperMemory configured in the drivers, to use 4GB of system RAM as VRAM. That would be less fraudulent, I suppose.

I did get the card. I gave it to a gamer friend of mine to try out, and see if it was better / worse than the R7 260X 2GB card that I had put in his PC to play Fortnite with.

I suppose that I'm going to have to get that card back from him, if he's not willing to simply just install it into his PC and try it out.

It came in a nice retail-style box, with "Nvidia" (with the logo) plastered all over it. You wouldn't really know it's "fake", I guess, "off-spec" would be a better name for these sorts of cards.
