Chinese counterfeits

Anyone else paranoid about purchasing something, even from a reputable source, and getting a Chinese counterfeit? I recently purchased a PS3 and was looking over the controller to make sure the controller that was included with the game system was authentic.

So, how do you tell a Chinese counterfeit from the Chinese manufacturer?

I know vibram had a problem with VFFs being counterfeited. The shoes were made of shitty material that didn't hold up at all. As far as something like a PS3 or 360, buy it from a reputable source and you shouldn't have a problem.

I got stuck with a counterfeit Taylor Made R9 Driver last year. Did not know it was a fake until I tried the adjustable shaft feature. Screw stripped out the threads in the shaft and a check with Taylor Made, confirmed it was a fake. Had to buy a new one from a legit dealer. Could not get a refund either.
