Chinese build 15 storey hotel in 6 days.

Don't know if they "completed" anything on the inside (but they did show insulation, drywall (or wallboard with maybe trim between the boards). Can they possibly do plumbing and wiring in that same time span? Prefabbed 15 storey building. Pretty awesome.

since it's all prefab everything's planned right? i suppose it's possible all the channels/conduit are already there and outlets/supply/drains may be in the walls.

I'd be concerned about the quality, strength and safety of the materials but for the brief closeup views of the actual structure it seemed like it was well thought out. It's an interesting way of doing things.

In all seriousness though - how much time was invested to create the modular design? You must take that into account. Of course, that is a one-time investment of time assuming that they will utilize it over and over. However, it appears that the options are very limited as far as architectural design. But if you need something quick, well there you go.

I would also be more interested in the modular design - if electrical/plumbing is taken into consideration and all that has to be done is have the sufficient support structure for it and then everything is done when putting up walls, etc. Though I am no plumber, it seems as this method may create more possible points of failure for the plumbing overall than if it were not modular. Same with electrical perhaps. But it's not like I've ever had anything to do with a building of this scale.

impressive! I didn't see any welding whatsoever, just wratcheted the whole damn thing together like a kids toy!

Only downside is they probably used chinese drywall...or maybe they keep the nice stuff for domestic use.

I wonder what the vibrations are like for a building with no concrete/rebar whatsoever. US buildings for a period of time used that "parking garage" construction for everything, and it vibrates like mad.

I am all in for pre-fab buildings, simple-easy-efficient-modular!

So the whole building will feel the couple on the 15th floor suite banging the bed against the wall?

I'm assuming they still did rivets and such...it showed very little of what actually went into connecting everything.

hope it doesn't end up like this Chinese apartment building

Who cares if this isn't the 100% most safest building ever. If it crumbles they can put another one up in 6 days lol. This shit is tight and is it really any surprise we're falling behind? lol

communism has its perks, I'm sure they don't have any paperwork to file through...it's probably either "you do it fast, you do it however you can, but you be efficient, cost effective...and if you fail, your ass is on the line!"

wow.. why cant they do this in the US?

ie:
prefab buildings

new 5story office building is being built near where i live. it's taking them months so far. the concrete for the final floor has been poured.

the noise, traffic, and parking spaces taken up by the construction workers. finishing the building in 6 days would have been GREAT!

You'll stay there whether you like it or not. They will be exporting those to the US for all future hotel buildings!

While this could be done in the US, it would never be completed in that time frame. Take the fact that OSHA now allows no one to be within the swing radius of the load of a crane (cranes on all sides of that building) the people putting the building together would be the only ones allowed to work. So as they were putting the framework of the building together all of the carpenter, plumbers, electricians, etc wouldn't be allowed on the job. I would say that with all of the time invested in the prefab work of the building that electrical and plumbing were included in the design, basically there was just someone there to "glue" the joints.

Safety is the biggest factor as to why we cannot do this in the US. The story stated they were lucky no one was injured **no injuries were reported**.
