What is your opinion on China's one child policy?
The arguments that I've mainly heard regarding it revolve around reproductive rights and the state shouldn't be telling individuals how many children they can have. I would imagine forcing an abortion on a mother that didn't want one is one of the most cruel and traumatic things she will ever go through. It also has the adverse side effect of a population heavily weighted towards males since they kill the female babies since they can only have one, but I think this is not really an effect of the policy in and of itself but the culture and what it values in which the policy has been put in place.
That said China is the most populous country in the world and this is definitely action on the very real problem of overpopulation. I do think that a state has the right to address such issues, and I wish the rest of the world would realize the problem as well.
