Yes. Emotion and feeling are ancestral traits which need to be selected against in the further development of our species. A highly educated and logical populace will push mankind to greater heights in a culture where intellect is valued over all else. Those that do fail are still smart enough to kill themselves, as is witnessed in Asian countries where the concept of honor versus shame is highly stressed. There is no negative side to such a culture.

and all the music, film, videogames and art are not from highly educated people? You are crushing creativity when you school people this way. In the end it doesnt matter how fast you put 2 and 2 together. It matters more if you do something to enrich the lives around you.

Let me add that I agree education is important but to favor one aspect of learning to such a degree is not evolving humanity forward.

Most music and film is decadent garbage created by deviant sex-obsessed people, born into a life of luxury on account of having a sexy jawline or big set of tits. Video games are indeed a legitimate creation, but they are also done by programmers/computer scientists. Asian families frequently support that as a legitimate career path. Multi-generation American families are content with the intellectual squalor of a degree in art or film. While Chinese methods may be extreme, they are a population that lives in great economic inequity and with poor environmental conditions. They must apply such measures to ensure that their children don't spend the rest of their lives slaving in mercury-filled rice paddies. When they gain some of the wealth that Americans piss away, they will gain access to better education and can focus on creative and worthwhile endeavors.

Define the aspects of learning. I expect that most are meaningless compared to the rigorous knowledge-building inherent in engineering in the sciences.

Sorry the programmers arent making all of the art assets you look at in the games you play. As for your remarks on music and film. It takes many behind the scenes people to make the films make sense that those people are in. There are also other indie films that are amazing. The fact that you feel video games are legit means you do feel something for things that have art and design as a main aspect of the content. Imagine not you but someone who doesnt play video games and feels the same about indie film.

Dont discount these things. The only time you feel real.

And the stories of those movies were probably taken, or "inspired by", some novel written by accomplished and educated authors with no Hollywood monopoly to oversee them. Granted, I am a human of no special genetic noteworthiness, and as such I do experience emotion and pleasure. Taking that into account, it is acceptable that artistic endeavors be taken, but parents encouraging their children to push aside math and the sciences in favor of band or art are setting up their offspring for a life of unemployment. Art is only practical for the fractional number of geniuses that can create something new and brilliant. Engineers are always in high demand, and ignoring the unfortunate few with mental defects, anyone can be one with enough work. The Chinese and Indians realize this. America and the western Europeans overlook it, wasting the hard, logic-based work of their ancestors on a life of careless eudaimonia.
