they'll lob this at it.

"after a hit by a dong feng 21d, it took the nuclear-powered supercarrier uss george washington a mere 20 minutes to sink. "

😉
otoh
technically speaking, it's not feasible. That is because when the missile re-enters the atmosphere, its speed would be somewhere around mach 7 [2,382.03 meters/second]. That is so fast that there would not be sufficient time to re-direct the warhead to hit an us aircraft carrier precisely. A carrier could only be hit indirectly by a special warhead, such as a fuel-air explosive.

Don't have much choice. While most of the stuff in our house is American/German/Japanese everything electronic is China. Motherboards, laptops, cellphones, LCD TVs you name it many time China is only option period. I did just buy a Bosch $900 cordless set paid premium because tools were made in Mexico and Switzerland but even batteries are china. All other cordless sets were China 100% including Milwaukee.

I agree that it's difficult...and getting more difficult every year...and totally impossible when shopping for many items, especially electronics and computer related products.

For China to eat per person as much fish per person as the Japanese do, it will require more than the annual world catch.

It may not be brief but it would be quite bloody for both sides. Look at that region. China is encircled entirely by the United States and her allies except for the north. There is no way their ships and submarines will be able to maneuver. They are stuck. A major war will have China being dominated in the air and sea. Their western front would collapsed quickly. Their only hope would be ICBMs but then it'd be game over for everyone, China especially.

I keep thinking of the phrase "you don't bite the hand that feeds you"...

LOL @ China.

So they have been bullied other smaller nations in South East Asia such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Phillipines, et al and took other nations fishermen in disputed islands and sea areas. Now they are crying when Japan is doing exactly what they have been doing for years.

Karma is a bitch.

Gotta love how they claimed almost the whole East Sea/China Sea as their own. If other nations use the same logic as China, then England is belonging to Italy (Rome Empire) and most of Middle East and part of Europe is belonging to Turkey (Ottoman Empire) and so on.

The Chinese can be irrational and they may get themselves into a situation they cannot get out of.

yeah, sure...keep telling yourself that.

And, you are wrong, China does care. Of course, you wouldn't know since you read what's in the newspapers.

None of their surrounding countries pose a threat, and for good reason.

I'm still laughing at your belief either country would escalate this into a full scale war.

War vs shooting match.

Presently you have Japanese Coast Guard (mini-warship).
If China ups the stakes - something bigger, the same will not save face), Japan will respond.

An accidental or deliberate incident (more than likely from the Chinese side) could trigger a few shells being lobbed.

the end result will be some people killed and a ship or two damaged/sunk.

That's why the United States is a strong believer in alliances. We always have. An alliance is far more powerful than a single nation. None of those country may, by themselves, pose a threat. However, if you look at a map of the region, together they form a formidable force, especially with the US leading. It'll turn that dragon into what it really is- a brittle, insecure lizard.

Fighting over a series of small, uninhabited island chains is so stupid. Just sit down and figure out how to split its resources.

Japan thinks it "owns" all the islands in the Pacific and China thinks it "owns" SE Asia. Nothing new.

Neither side thinks that there are enough resources to satisy one of them, let alone both.

WWII had its roots in who controlled the resources.

China also wants to expand it's wings/influence. If she can nibble around the edges, it is easier than tripping an alliance wire by going after an actual country.

If we were smart we wouldn't get involved in this one... I think Japan is pretty stupid for egging them on. But oh well... Hopefully we don't have to bail out anyone or we really will look like fools.

Haven't we learned from are mistakes with Israel?

Japan needs to turn it on again. Turn off PC, watching weird ass comics and playing with silly toys. They dominated almost a billion with 40,000 troops.

Man I was at lowes today and looking for a new belt sander, nothing wrong with my Bosch but size 3x21. Anyway could not find a 4x24 made in anything but china. Did not buy, I'll make due with old Bosch when i build a new entertainment center. Why am I building it? Same reason. Plus I only like 100% wood no glue board/mdf crap.

It pisses me off we are paying people in USA to sit at home while putting food in Chinese tables with our outsourcing

Seems like another excellent opportunity for Obama to further build relations with Japan as he has been doing with other Asian nations intimidated by China.

Obama's realignment of US foreign relations away from Europe to elsewhere in the world is a work of art.

How is this Japan's fault? Should they kowtow to Chinese aggression or rudeness?

Look like the situation is getting worse. Four Japaneses were arrested in China. Coincident?

South Korea has North Korea

India has Pakistan

Japan has China

England has France

Colombia has Venezuela

Brazil has Argentina

The relationship between the two countries is that one has historical grievances and acts extremely childish when it comes to dealing with said neighbor.

That was a lucky streak because all of the EU (that had colonies) at that time had trouble with Nazi Germany. Therefore most if not all Asia at that time didn't have their own standing army.

Today, it is a different story. China is a force to be reckon, while Japan doesn't have the technology, arms, or resource to take on China. Certainly Japan isn't in the driver seat at this time, IMHO the sun has set on the Japanese Empire and it will never rise again.

The Japanese are screwed in this show down.

It is going to be hell for Japan to seek alternative sources for rare earth, because Canada & Australia are the 2 of the largest exporters of rare earth mining companies and they are mostly own by China.

PS. Me going buy some rare earth mining shares (smaller companies that aren't own by Chinese), thanks for the head up.

Currently, China controls between 95 and 97 per cent of world REEs production. But its announcement in September, Jones said, "caused a bit of panic" for customers outside China, who now question where the supply will come from.

Quest Rare Minerals Ltd. (QRM) is pretty much the only Canadian rare earth exploration company, and its stock jumped 10% today.

I wouldn't say never. China is a huge country that is brittle and insecure. The only thing holding the Japanese back are their constitution. One false move on China's part and that constitution goes in the trash and Japan will start to militarize again. China would not want that because they would have to deal with a powerful nation allied with the United States that can counter them. This would make things worse strategically because China has a hostile string of nations that simply do not like its behavior. Ironically, this would be good for America because it would mean less defense spending and more purchases (in the short term for American companies).

That is the excuse that we heard over and over again. In reality Japan have been developing its navy for the past 2 decades (could be from the fear of China) that is well past there constitution. I don't think Japan have the resource to take on anyone now or the future, certainly their soushoku danshi men aren't going to help.
