it's un-American to acknowledge the strengths of other nations without bashing them simultaneously, especially non-western ones.

When I was in 5th grade I bought the game. I thought it was the most amazing thing to get 250 of them. The launch arco. Yeah, the most unepic animation ever. I wanted to see a space shuttle launch or something. Instead they blow up like you're demolishing them..... and then... WTF. I'm left with rubble, and millions down the drain.

Hahaha no doubt 😀

"The idea is that when the cities are integrated, the residents can travel around freely and use the health care and other facilities in the different areas," said Ma Xiangming, the chief planner at the Guangdong Rural and Urban Planning Institute and a senior consultant on the project.
Seems like a the problem is within the Chinese legal system, at least when it comes to mobility. Instead of forming a mega city, it would be more efficient for the government to make the transfer of services and "other facilities" easier between cities. From this, I gather that China adopted the old soviet system where you need permission to move from city to city. In essence, you need a passport to move within the country.

Yeah... no.

42 million in thousands of square miles? Give me a break... Hardly that dense.

to give you an idea of how fucking wide that is. 130 miles WIDE at that one point. WTF?

If that area is 10,000 square miles... and if they packed it like Manhattan (70,950people/squaremile) then it could have over 700,000,000 people.

Fuck, read the article for one snippet. IT'S 16000 SQUARE MILES FOR 42 MILLION PEOPLE. NOT DENSE. 2625 PEOPLE PER SQUARE MILE.

That's HARDLY ANYTHING

First thing Trident has EVER said that I agree with.

Go troll somewhere else.

Look, he can't help himself, being an Indian desperately wanting to be black. Guess the identity crisis he faces, as self induced and self-inflicted as it may be, is just causing him a severe mental imbalance.....well, more than usual.

Translation, too many people is cutting into the bribes the Quanzhou major used to receive. Consolidate and he prospers.

it is a pretty vast area. they just want to make it a metropolitan.
it seems like it would be the equivalent of connecting Boston, NYC, and Philadelphia via super fast train and calling it collectively one city.

not that I wouldn't love the opportunity to take a train to Boston, kick a douchebag in the nuts, and be back in my office in NYC before the end of my lunch break.

If so why is he still here???

aren't you supposed to be in somalia?

This is a logical reorganization only. The areas between the current cities don't suddenly become super-urban and densely populated. This doesn't make them a bigger "target" in any way. Duh.

This would be interesting to see if they can get it to work. This area is one of the manufacturing capitals of the world. A lot of the workers live onsite of the factories but I know several people that live in Hong Kong but work in Shenzehn, Dongguan or Guangdong (they are in the management and office work side of things). Having a rapid transit system throughout the Pearl River Delta region would greatly benefit them by allowing people to displace further from the factory cities to the outlying regions. Unless you own a car (which is very expensive) or are high enough on the pay grade to warrant the company shuttle buses you pretty much live at the factory from what I have seen. Lack of mass transportation also seems to be a large cause of some of these ghost towns like the mall.

There has been some controversy over the Hong Kong - Guangdong express train. In the end though, I think it might help keep more workers and businesses in Hong Kong. With the economic crunch, it seems more companies and employees are moving to the Mainland side where it is cheaper. Having rapid transit to these factory areas would probably help encourage more companies to keep their management and corporate offices in Hong Kong.
