That's an interesting point. It is a smart move on their part considering that money could be better spent in the developing world where returns are greater.

It is a smart move from their vantage point. They believe (and want) the US dollar to tank, so why would they invest any more in US debt? Now, whether it will happen remains to be seen, but the numbers support their stance against us.

Wow, you fail...and you fail hard.

FROM THE LINK ITSELF (bold emphasis added by me around the treas.gov link):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Foreign_Holders_of_United_States_Treasury_Securities.svg

Description Foreign Holders of United States Treasury Securities.svg
English: The share of the foreign holders of United States Treasury Securities as of September 2009. Created with an experimental chart tool made by me (McSush). The data for this was obtained from: http://www.treas.gov/tic/mfh.txt

And check it out, the name-calling from you at the end, while completely failing to read what was written.

Just stop. You already look foolish.

Still persisting that ... what was it now?

I guess the official Treasury .gov website wouldn't pass a university course either, eh there, professor?

:D

Typical response. Deflect and discredit, but never actually address the point. I have provided (yet again) official numbers proving my point. Where are yours, oh Mr. Expert on US-China Foreign Relations?

You're being ignorant as usual. You don't think claiming that India can somehow pick up the slack is as stupid as you think a pie chart will prove me wrong over something that I never even said in the first place?

Epic fail? What did I fail moron? I never said China holds majority of US government bonds. Go and try to find me saying that anywhere in this thread and you'll realize how stupid you sound.

Wow, your conclusions from my posts are incredibly simplistic. No need to continue this.

If you don't want to continue this is because you lost. Did you even read the article that you gave me? No where in there did it say the US government dumped the Bretton Wood System because of Japan's economic growth. You either prove that you essentially give up because you're wrong and that I'm right.

It's ironic for you to be making such claims given how simple you make things to be. History doesn't seem to reflect what you have been saying. Neither you or the others have proven anything at all. It's one thing to make rhetorics, it's another to act on it. There are reasons why the Obama Administration and even previous administrations haven't dumped China. Are you going to tell me that you have idiots running the US government? The very same people that happens to have Ph.Ds and worked in the field for years? Who do you think you are of a sudden? What have you done?

Talk about ignorance here. This is why you don't work for the State Department. Why would the Chinese want the US dollar to tank? It's in their interest for the US dollar to be strong given how much they have invested in the US economy.

You seem to have a pretty big mouth and want to talk big, but just because you and a few people on this board think you're right, doesn't mean that you are. Fortunately, things are a lot different in reality or else the US economy would tank if they were to follow up on your advice.

they americans aren't perfect but they're a lot better than russia or china being 'the' superpower.

you rant a lot about americans being ignorant and racist but fail to realise your own ignorance at mass labelling a country of, what, 300+ million? *every* american hates Koreans? really? you can find someone in a country that size that hates any colour (proper spelling!) or creed. Doesn't mean they speak for the whole.

As for being racist in general and non whites being paid less, I wonder if Obama gets paid less than Bush

Who are you kidding. US is not better than anyone if not worst.

Your profiles shows you've been a member for 9yrs posting from the US, your avatar is a symbol of western military strength, yet you spew anti American hatred and call America your enemy.

How do you think your beloved China would react to such behavior within its borders?
Why do you live in the US? lost face in China? they don't want you?
Or are you such a hypocrite that you enjoy American lifestyle, money, comforts, and only talk your hate garbage on the internet? I bet you go to work and kiss your bosses ass everyday:)

China earned their money. Don't know about US.

US stole land of opportunity, stole oil, gold, slaved drove to build up America. You name it America has raped it.

Your username leads me to believe that you are a troll, but judging by your post history I am forced to conclude that you are a disgrace to Asians everywhere. I have spent years lurking AT forums, and after the past few weeks of seeing your idiotic posts in the hardware forums and here, I finally registered and posted to note my disgust with your presence on these forums. After repeated reminders (and a recent 3 day suspension of your account) your posts continue in the same fashion. I pity the insecurity in you that causes you to desperately latch onto an empirically false nationalistic image of your heritage. This will not provide real meaning to your existence. Please study some history before throwing stones like the one I just quoted.

Back on topic, I think that China is stepping up their foreign policy game. With the recently publicized debacle of checking personal emails in Gmail, this story and their oil securing policies (to name a few examples), China feels a growing need to control not just local enterprises, but the global arena. This is precisely because (as has been mentioned in this thread) they are growing at an alarming rate. I use the word alarming to refer to the reasonably common occurrence of a mansion in China right next to a shanty house. Explosive consumerism cannot be properly optimized in a country where so much of the resources of the state are used to check and balance the very thought processes of the people, so with respect to spending/acquisition, the people are left to pursue goods in any way they choose to: as long as they have the cash, and as long as it does not upset the state.

With time, I am hopeful that China's growing pains will ease and that whenever "things do not go China's way" it is not seen as the cultural "loss of face" that China thinks it needs to protect so badly. Give up on Taiwan, China. They do not believe in a one china policy, and the Chinese are going to have to become accustomed to not having their way in the global arena. Bullying tactics just don't work: not even China's economic relationship with the USA is sufficient to grant them that sort of leverage.

You hate the fact that I can't stand your American barbarism. You call invasions/occupations "freedom". Murder and rape for $$$ is not freedom. How are you different than the common thugs that rob liquor stores and banks? Your hypocrisy never seem to end.

Hehe, you really need to stop spewing crap. Sure some American rape and murder just like the rest of bad human beings around the world. The difference is those American end up in courts and jail. Unlike your beloved Kim Jong-Il and Chinese CCP party leaders who rape and murder and still have ass kissers like you to sing the praise for them.

I don't know what you think you are accomplishing here. All you are doing is for all to see how pathetic you communist ass kissers are. Yeap, NK communist starved millions of your own people and here you are kissing their asses and bashing those defending SK against them. Kim Jong-Il is a sex maniac to the degree of kidnapping Japanese stewardness, SK actressess for his own personal enjoyment and here you are sing his praise.

Seriously you are either totally ignorant of who you are bashing and defending, or totally enjoying getting fvcked in the ass by those NK commies and still try and defend them.

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6183KG20100209

China has the world's biggest pile of foreign currency reserves, much of it held in U.S. treasury debt. China held $798.9 billion in U.S. Treasuries at end-October.

But any attempt to use that stake against Washington would probably maul the value of China's own dollar-denominated assets.

So, it looks like my official Treasury (and not "random Wikipedia") numbers are reaffirmed, yet again. Who'da thunk it?

Anyway, the part I quoted from this article is interesting. If China wants to "stick it to us" and do a mass dump of US bonds, it could end up having very negative effects for them as well. I'm not quite sure how the intricacies of that would work, but I find it to be an interesting point, nonetheless.

Well, they're trying to have it both ways. They own a lot of American debt and have their currency pegged to the dollar. If the dollar goes down in value, so does their currency, which increases the value of their exports. Either way, they think they cannot lose. But in order to maintain that parity, they would have to buy a lot of dollars and that means inflation for their economy, which can be devastating as investment dollars is wasted. IMHO, the best thing would be to float their currency. Right now, the Chinese government is supporting their export economy at the expense of their much bigger internal economy and Chinese consumers in general, which is stupid.
