As I understand it Chinese culture places a lot of faith in traditional medicine, which often involves ingesting animal parts / byproducts. Tiger urine as a cure for impotence, etc. Some believe eating animals' penises will improve virility, I remember seeing a documentary on... something, I forget (I was half asleep) but part of it was about a restaurant in China which specialized in this sort of thing. For around $8k USD they could (illegally of course) get you tiger penis, and people were lining up to pay the price and eat it. I don't know how they feel about ants specifically, but if this guy got $385 million USD for them in China, which tends to be rather poor, they must think ants are hot sh!t.
