China Airlines installs high-speed wireless Internet on 747 passenger jets

China Airlines becomes the 7th carrier to install in-flight Internet service after Lufthansa, SAS, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Singapore Airlines and Korean Air.

I don't often fly the other airlines, so I've never had Internet access on an airplane. Rates aren't horrible especially considering that I can never sleep on the 12 to 14-hour trans-Pacific flights:

Less than 3 hours for cost US$14.95
From 3-6 hours for US$19.95
More than 6 hours will cost US$29.95

hi, i'm posting this from 30,000 feet.

a few months ago, i was flying to FL (and then back to NY) on late night flights with my treo 650 in hand. if anyone knows how treos work, they query the providing service (sprint for me) at approximately 12am or 3am, depending on where you are. we were about to land and my cell phone was in my pocket and i was waiting to get off the plane. you're not supposed to use your cell phone at all -- and i had turned it off -- but when the phone queries the server, it reboots itself basically and turns itself back on.

so there i was, sitting on the plane when my pocket started to vibrate. i looked down at my phone and saw my friend was IMing me since my cell IM program immediately signed me on once the phone reset itself. i was like "whoa" and had to tell him that i was in the sky and couldn't really talk anymore. 😛

china airlines is the taiwan one. its not the crappiest one.

when flying to asia, Cathay > *

I'm assuming there would be some way to share this connection, in which case I would just stand up and ask if anyone wants to split the bill for the 6 hour+ plan 😛

yes if its the taiwanese company. they=the suX0rs
Yes, listen to the guy who isn't even sure which country the airline originates from...

I believe the "crappy" one you might be referring to is Air China... although it's tough for me to call any of the Asian airlines crappy relative to the US carriers. Fly United or Northwest to Asia and see if there's a difference.

I do think it's unfair to compare airlines to Cathay Pacific... seeing as how they're the best.

yeah, air china from china sucks big time.

china airlines (from taiwan, odd that they can call themselves that... but that's beside the point.) is avg, but still better than Northwest just because of the food quality.

evergreen from taiwan is better than china airlines.

Air China = China
China Eastern = China
China Southern = China

The 3 combined = SUCKAGE MAJORLY.

CHina Airlines = Ehh ok. It's cheap. Come on. Who wants to pay $900 for a plane ticket on United when you can get a flight to Taiwan for $700 on China Airlines. Now they have good food. United has JUNK. I fly to Taiwan every year and I've flown United 3 times, China once, and Eva Air about 10 times.

Eva is the way to go to Taiwan. Upgrade to Evergreen Deluxe, which is between Economy and Business and you get really nice seats + service + food all for $1200 - $1300. Beats the crap out of business class. And if you're one of those guys who travel to India, why pay for Singapore Airlines? Just take Eva and fly to HK and then transfer.... ALL FOR A LOWER PRICE.

what's the point??? all their website crap is already censored.

it's like giving you 54mbps and you can just use Lynx to surf, lol

Damn. They're from Taiwan? I was about to make a joke that someone was going to fly the airline and make a post from the plane about how great the freedom of web surfing from the plane was and then be shot.

you're thinking of air china, and i don't think that country will ever allow internet on the plane for a long time.

i dunno, i flew SFO-taiwan once, and the food was decent but my "omlette" was a yellow sponge. i quickly had some of my mom's "jook" because that was edible.

now the food taiwan - bangkok wasn't bad.

china air isn't that bad though for the price.

Great, next thing you know rather than just worrying about the moron next to you falling asleep on your shoulder, you'll have to worry abotu what he's doing beneath all those blankets while surfing pr0n online...

China Airlines? Cool, you can post right before the plane crashes.

Anyone notice that the asian airlines typically chooses the cute, slim asian honeys to be their stewardess?
