Chin up bar recommendations

Hey,

I'm looking for recommendations for a chin up bar that can be set up without damaging the wall/doorframe. The frame around my door seems fairly weak but it only needs to be able to hold about 140 lbs.

So far, I've been looking at the iron gym bar (http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?sku=16159433) which seems to get pretty decent reviews. Are there any others I'm overlooking?

Also, do those included Ab straps that come with this model actually help or is that just a gimmick? I'd like to improve my abs too (though that is not my intended purpose of the chin up bar, it would be a plus).

Not sure about your pull up bar question. The straps are at least partly a gimmick, but can be useful. There's nothing special about them for ab work-anything done with them can be done without. But they remove most of the stress from your forearms/grip, allowing you to hang there longer and more easily. If you have a weak grip or have tired those muscles from other exercises, the straps will definitely help you with hanging exercises.

Alternatively, you can ignore the straps which will improve and maintain your grip strength.

I have the one you linked, but it's cheaper on amazon:

Pretty good for the price, I'm around 190 lbs and didn't break it yet 😛 The only thing that sucks is that if you have low frames, you get really close to the ground (I'm 5'11). Ignore the straps and just work on your grip and do other ab stuff.

I ended up getting the one I linked. It seems to work pretty well even on the weak frames around the doors in my house. I picked it up at bed bath and beyond since I had a 20% off coupon, and it's easy to return items there in case it didn't work out for me. Turns out the ab straps are only sent if you send in 8 bucks for "shipping and handling". Oh well, no big loss since I probably would not have used them anyway. I've been able to get up to 15 pull ups in one go.

Thanks.

I've been using the one in the OP for a couple years now. It's held up well. I do 4 positions on it. Over hand and under hand parallel to shoulder, over hand arms at Y position, and wrists in fist position parallel to shoulder. I do 10 pullups in each position. With 30 sec break in between.
