i have a chin up bar at home.
years ago, i used to be able to do 5.
now i can barely do 2.

i see these chin up assist bands on ebay:

Anyone try it?
does it work?

If so, which band should i get? (i weigh 150lbs)

My advice is to nix the assist stuff, and Grease the groove. You should be back to 5 reps in a month or less.

Resistance bands are unbelievably useful when used right, and are a multipurpose tool. It's what I have many of my athletes in the gym use to work on their strict pull up strength. The key is to make sure you are still challenging yourself with the band strength, as well as focusing on tempo - hold the pull up at the top for a second or two, and then lower yourself down slowly. The eccentric portion of the movement will build your strength faster than doing more reps with a heavier band.

We use the rogue fitness bands, however nearly all bands delaminate over time and usage, so I wouldn't worry too much about what brand you use and lifespan.
