Has anyone here watched...

Mr. Mizard's World
Bill Nye the Science Guy
Beakman's World

???

I used to watch all of these religiously. I wish I had the time and resources to start my own for today's kids. It seems they have nothing of the sort... or do they?

(Big shout out to Lester the lab rat, by the way. He MADE that show!)

I used to watch Bill Nye and Beakman's world. Beakman's world also has a section in the comics every Sunday here at the Star Ledger. I had a family get together with a family friend and the family's 8 year old daughter watches Mythbusters now.

I don't know of any other besides Mythbusters, and they aren't really that great for scientific content. They're more concerned with blowing stuff up just for the heck of it.
They could add better content if they wanted to.

True, but they aren't a teaching science show. And they do generally use the scientific method, which is as important as anything else.

But Mythbusters isn't really a kids show.

I never really liked those shows as a kid, just found them sort of dumb. That being said I do think having those shows on television is a very good thing, I just personally didn't care for them.

In a sense it is somewhat ironic that I never cared for those shows in that I now work as a scientist - in fact in the lab right now checking up on something :(

After reading the title, I immediately thought Bill Nye, the Science Guy. I thoroughly enjoyed that show as well as Beakman's World.

Carl Sagan thought children's science shows were necessary to fight all the psuedoscience in America. Too bad there are none :(

Also ever notice how much scientists are portrayed as crazy, evil, antisocial in childrens programming?

I use to watch Mr. Wizard every morning before school at like 6am. Great projects, but the guy was more stale then cardboard. Not much humor in him.
