Children are detrimental to happiness. It's on par w/doing housework

"Our genes hardwire us to reproduce, but children have a small negative effect on happiness, research shows. If you're a parent reading this, you're most likely shaking your head. But Gilbert said the findings are clear when parents are asked about their level of happiness in the moment.

"When you follow people throughout their days, as they're going about their normal activities, people are about as happy interacting with their children, on average, as when they're doing housework. "

Parents are on avg more happy exercising, sleeping, grocery shopping, hanging out with friends, etc than being w/their children. Wow...

and having children has another negative effect:
There was a post about married couples having less sex after having children. Less sex = less happy.

Thus children are a double whammy :Q

"The survey also found:

Married people are happier than singles.

College grads are happier than those without a college degree.

People who were religious are happier than those who aren't.

Sunbelt residents are happier than other U.S. residents.

Republicans are happier than Democrats -- but both are happier than independents."

So you should also vote republican, marry, get your college degree, move some place sunny and accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior!

FTW

Some guy writes a book and it's true. Amazing.

Well, there must be something wrong with me, then. My children are what make me smile every day.

When my son shows his good manners at school every day, and shows not only exceptional intelligence but also compassion, I can't imagine being happier. When my daughter practices the piano and the sound is so sweet it hardly seems human, I can't imagine being happier. When my oldest stops by to see me in my classroom on her birthday because she wants to see ME on her special day (she just turned 19), I know that there isn't anything else that could make me happier.

My husband and I have rocking sex 2xs a week or so. It's work that keeps us from having more.

I think either you are inclined to be happy or you are not, period.

LOL, nice catch. I would say that too many people have children that either don't want them or are not prepared for them. THATS why you see that. I love kids, and I am always happiest when with my gf, puppy, or small cousins.

LOL, I'm a Dem and not religious at all, but I am spiritual, which has been connected to being 'eccentric and prone to fantasy'. So maybe that's the key to happiness! :D

I wouldn't trade being a father for anything. My kids bring me great joy. I was one of those males who actually thought that if my wife and I couldn't conceive then no big deal. Then my wife gets pregnate with my daughter and when she was born areas of my heart opened up that I never knew existed.

I've said it for years, let the gullible have kids.

The rest of us will be wining and dining, having a great time as the suburban drones raise the next generation of worker bees.

Edit: And most of you are parents of "young" kids. Yeah it's all cuddly when you're a new parent, wait until they're in their teens and tell us how they put a smile on your face every day.

It's a damn shame your parents decided to have you.

Ya, this is why most Western European countries have declining native populations, buoyed only via immigration... everyone's only in life for their own momentary pleasure and ease of living. Woot.
