wtf... leashes for children are disgusting and inhumane.

No they're not. You don't drag a child around by a leash like a dog. It's just a safety device in case your toddler trips on the stairs at the mall or pulls loose from your hand in a crowded place and tries to dart off.

Dude, they're retarded.

They're only necessary if the kid is mentally retarded or the parent is sh!t. We never had leashes and my sisters and I are still here today. Never kidnapped or hit by a car because we ran out into the street, or fell down the goddamn stairs at the mall.

The ONLY reason anyone thinks there's anything wrong with a child leash is that leashes are also used on dogs. So most people make a connection in their brains between a child and a dog, when in fact a child leash does not make the child doglike in any way!
Is there something wrong with those kid backpacks too? After all, kids aren't backpacks.

That's not a problem for logic1485. I heard him ranting the other day about doggie sweater. Man, he was in tears.

This thread is just putting a band-aid on a cannon ball wound. The real solution is not to allow children in public in the first place. 😉

Seriously....my son soooooo cramps my social life. Why can't I just leave him home unattended?

If you seriously have to ask that question, you are not fit to be a parent 😉.

damn right. all good parents know that you keep a cage in either the basement or closet. that way you put the kids in it and you have a few hours of bliss.

as for the the leash i have no problem with it. My nephew was one that would run off at any second he can. If he seen something in the distance that looked fun zoom off he goes. so my sister had a leash system on him. kept him close. Only time they used it was at the mall or such.

We baught one for my daughter. but if she got more then 3 steps away from us she would get upset. so we didn't worry about her.

I agree. It's too bad muzzles are used on dogs, or it might be socially acceptable to use them on children.

(Edit: My second sentence may have sounded facetious, but I really do agree with you)

it's called being a responsible parent... you don't need a fvcking leash.

I disagree with that. sometimes kids run off without the parents knowing. It happens even to great parents.

is the leash needed for most kids? heck no. maybe very few, but it not being irresponsible if you use one.

Don't even get me started on doggie sweaters. Those guys have naturally growing sweaters, why would they need something extra? That's like wearing a jumper in the summer for quite a few dogs.

And mercanucaribe's comparison of backpacks doesn't make sense at all.

backpacks? huh? whats that got to do w/leashes?

Not so long ago, if a kid darted away from a parent at the mall, in a couple of seconds some other adult would stop the kid and find the parent. Today, you have to worry about someone grabbing the kid and taking off while everyone else figures "Ooh, better not get involved." So I don't blame any parent for putting a leash on a kid.

We used one this past summer when we went to Disneyworld on vacation. For the record, though, we have 5 kids--the oldest is 9 and the youngest is almost 2. The "leash" was for the 3yo boy who likes to get in/out of the stroller to investigate things and can get lost quickly. We didn't use it much, but there were times when it was used for safety.

Short of idiots commenting on you treating your kid like a dog there is no downside.

It gives the kid a little freedom while keeping him wthin a safe radius. Plus it has to be a hell of a lot more comfortable than being dragged around on your tiptoes with your arm straight up in the air.
