A lot of people, for whatever reason, don't know that "Jap" is a racist term. It boggles my mind, but I've seen it more often than I feel like I should have.

My brother and I used to say "Jap version" all the time because japanese games were labeled "JAP." At that point, we never actually heard it used...ever. It was AT forums that told us it was "racist." I still think it's perfectly natural (like "U.S."), but I don't use it anymore.

Hmm here in NZ "jap" wouldn't be considered a racist term unless used in a particular context.

same here. like 'jew'.

what are you supposed to say? "a japanese?" if they can't conjugate their nationality in a way where i don't have to put 'person' on the end, fuck them, it's getting shortened.

Are you being serious? Yes, you are supposed to say a "Japanese" person, game, car, etc. What is the matter with you?

Ugh, that is HORRIBLE. It looks like they broke his finger(s?) very methodically by shoving them against the pavement. How utterly inhumane... I cannot believe the crowd sat there and watched the abuse of a child like that, whether he stole or not. Arrest his ass and let the courts take care of him, don't torture him on the street...

not that i agree what whatever they did but never in history has a court ever been able to properly judge or sentence a child.

It was kind of necessary. Look at the SECOND COMMENT!

I seriously hope that guy is just trolling.

The comments i read said this was a chinese minority race and this was not japan. The atrocity of this is the fact is the victim here is a child so race is not a factor and only serves to hate monger or allow people to generalize about a race.

Don't be ignorant. Someone is hating on a race / culture and he's fingering the wrong one; yet you think it's "pointless" to answer the obvious question: "WHERE is this?"

"Chinese" answers that question (partially, at least).

Why does the video call out the race of the people involved, victim and perpetrators? It does not change the impact of what happened.

Well, it got you commenting, didnt it?

I dont think you understand that news is not about information, its about entertainment and lets be honest, the more controversial something is the more we keep watching it.

Not this.

It said "Chinese" because it answers the most obvious question of anyone watching:

"Where did this happen?!"

Is there a context in which using the word "beloved patriot" is appropriate?

Seriously?

Jap is short for Japanese. It's commonly used when describing electronics or items that are made in Japan as opposed to Taiwan or China due to the fact that Japanese goods are of much higher quality. So yeah, its normal to qualify something as JAP in front of the item to differentiate it. beloved patriot isn't short for anything. They aren't chinkenese people.

Jap used to have negative meaning especially right after WWII when the servicemen used the term in a derogative manner, however, much like the term "ricer" once meant someone who simply drove an import now means someone who modifies a foreign car, it has changed over time to simply describe something as from Japan. The negativity once associated with the word has fallen off.

You can say that but it doesn't make it true.

Go call some Japanese-Americans "Japs" and see how they feel about it...

This. Whether you like it or not, it's evolved to a derogatory term. Your opinion means shit.

Go tell a Japanese, "So you're a Jap huh?" and see what happens.

what i'm saying is that nationalities such as 'chinese' and 'japanese' don't have a noun to describe their people (in our language). you know, like, american, canadian, mexican...or say, frenchman, englishman.

they get left with chinaman and jap. not my fault.

wonder where the kid's parents were at

I don't think it's common place to drop white kids in China and leave them there

edit: realized the kid's parents could be from the region bordering counties like Kazakhstan and Russia which is why he looks "white"

racism is a rampant and constant issue between China's many different ethnic groups, but speaking from complete ignorance, I don't think it's as bad as one ethnic group going out of their way to blatantly target a young child

I assume the kid did something to encourage the wrath of the crowd, but I still wonder where his parents were at.

You realize most of the countries out there are not described as [COUNTRY]man.

WTF is wrong with you?
