More like make him eternally dependent on them. All the anger and disgust towards the kid here is ignorantly misplaced. He never had a fighting chance, he was raised to be this way. His bedroom is his world, he doesn't even know anything else. It's brutally sad.

The mother is a psychologically deformed monster, and the father went along.

Just because there's a husband there physically doesn't mean that the husband is there emotionally for the family. Maybe the mom is the same way with the husband and babies them both. She obviously have huge attachment issues.
