Chieftec Dragon Mid-Towers w/window again for $19.97+S/H at TD

FYI, I received the black, blue and solar flare cases today and none of them have a fan in the clear side panel.

I knew it...I knew it...I knew it. Why did I open myself to this type of crap again with TD. The photo in the ad shows a side panel fan and one would assume it is representative of the item you will recieve. There is no disclosure anywhere that the photo is merely a sample and not the actual product you will receive, ie. lacking the side panel fans.

I haven't received my two cases yet (both black), but if they do not have the fans, I'm unsure if I will return. That in itself opens a whole new round of frustration and inconvenience.

cmon, what did a whore ever do to you to make you liken her to TD?
Good luck getting an RMA. I would say just refuse it, but I wouldn't be suprised if it gets "lost". Then you'd have to deal with UPS, which is worse than dealing with TD! Just keep the stupid cases; fans are cheap. They'd probably come with cheeseball fans anyways...

From previous orders, they came with a side panel fan but no fans on the back or front.

That isn't really a deal breaker though. The fans they ship with are the cheapo $.99 fans you can order from Newegg.

I'm not overly concerned about the lack of a fan. But, what I understand is that it is a solid clear panel without a vent that will require mods which is a pain, then purchase a fan and grill. Considering that the advertised product showed the panel vented with a fan, that's how it should come. There is this issue of misrepresenting a product that I have a hard time overlooking.

but shirley you remember who you are buying this from? Buying from TD is (unfortunately) like buying a newegg refurb. Sometimes they are too cheap to resist, but you have to remember you won't always get what is represented. At least newegg tells you up front tho.

I have an issue with this as well. Not only is the fan and hole missing, the colors on the yellow case are WAY off. First off, the color is chartreuse. It's not even close to the yellow shown on the web site. Secondly, the metal and plastic are different shads of chartreuse. It looks like total crapola.

Anyone have any dealings with RMA's and TD?

Yeah, unlike all of the other reputable dealers, that present photos of the actual product... TD's photos are merely mfg illustrations. For example, I was hoping that I would recieve the full-tower side-panel with the single speaker-grille-style cover, but it was in fact the newer model stock with *two* fan locations, and a mesh cutout instead of the (IMHO, nicer-looking, even if more restrictive to airflow) grille cover.

Hehe. (Yet another "satisfied" customer, eh tcsenter?)

My bet is that unless the description states side-panel with fan, you won't be recieving a model with fans.

Well, I noticed that on my "black" full-tower case, the metal sides are painted a nice shade of black, but the plastic front-panel is more of a dark-grey plastic shade. Not a huge deal, the case will end up hidden away in the corner anyways, but that's disappointing to hear. I was toying with the idea of getting the green mid-tower too, but if the two colors don't match, then I'm sure that it probably looks a little "funky". Perhaps the real reason that TD is selling these cheap, is because they might be "second" quality, and TD is offloading them for the mfg? I dunno. I did have problems with the keylock being basically nearly defective on my case, but I didn't think that was grounds for RMA, since the keylock on these cases is so useless security-wise anyway, it's mainly just for show. If I cared, I'd order a replacement front-panel bezel from Directron.

That's a level of TD Hell that I haven't yet had the need/chance/want to descend into. I've only been to the first level, ordering from them.

On the whole though, it was indeed a good deal, and the risks don't seem all that much higher than dealing with other Internet-based computer-surplus sellers. (In fact, I'm mildly pissed that Compgeeks didn't mention that their Compaq OEM P4 heatsinks for $3.79, had only a 3" fan cable. Strangely, their wholesale site very clearly mentions that limitation. Thankfully I had a 3-pin fan header extension cable lying around.)

The cases arrived. Neither had the side vent. I'm keeping them because it is not worth the hassle of trying to go through TD RMA Hell. Besides, I would probably have to pay shipping back.

Are the cases worth what I paid. Yeah, but it is the principle involved. TD is not to be trusted. Reminds of someone else I despise who once said..." It depends upon how you define the word 'is'."

As the saying goes...Shame on me. If it was the first time, then it was shame on TD but I should have known better. This could turn me into a TD troll...just give me the chance to comment on any "hot deal" from TD! I'm waiting...

Let me see if I have this right, you guys get a GREAT case for $20 + reasonable shipping and you're belly aching because it does't have a side panel vent? Get real folks and enjoy you're case.

I know. WHo cares about the side fan, its worthless anyway. Only the two front and back matter. I bought 15 fans for $15 on Newegg, will use 2 in the back for now, 2 in the front whenever I need down the road.

Its amazing how someone can say something so many different ways and still not have it understood. He is pissed because TD showed him a picture of one thing, and then sent him another.
Not because it does not have a side panel vent, but because TD basically told him it would and it does not.
It may not mean that much to you and me, but if I did have my heart set on it as bad as they did and it was not there, I would be pissed too.

First of all, you and him should both realize that TD is not the only company which shows one thing in the picture and ships another. You read the description of the product. Nowhere in the description did it say that this case had a side fan. A lot of sites don't even put pictures and nobody complains because they are forced to read the description.

And that makes it right?

You read the description of the product. Nowhere in the description did it say that this case had a side fan.
Gorgeous mid-tower design, superb construction, available in your choice of OUTRAGEOUS colors, loaded with 10 bays, and featuring the SPECTACULAR clear side panel with integrated exhaust fan!
duh.

can't argue with that. if those other sites don't put up misleading pictures, I applaud them for it.
I've already told them,
remember who you are buying this from?
But I do not defend TD's shady business practices, and I don't belittle people's rightful complaints about them.

If you guys look closely at the different photos on TD you will see that some photos show a fan hole and others don't. Most likely, TD has mixed stock from Cheiftec and some cases have a hole and others don't. This, in the manufacturing world, is called a "running change" and usually does not include a part number change. What would you guys have TD do, open each and every box to see which ones have a hole and which ones don't? Why should TD denote a difference in these cases when Cheiftec does not?

Again I say, enjoy your case.

I love the case and could really care less about the side fan. I understand being a little disappointed but it's really not worth this kind of indignancy is it?

If it's not what the customer wanted, it doesn't matter what it actually cost them, does it?

Then TD should pull the pictures, and try to sell the cases based on a text-only decription. (Either that, or fix the pictures so that they actually represent the product being sold - just like every other legit online retailer does.)

That sounds like a good theory, were it not for the fact that Chieftec, AFAIK, does have different model numbers for the different various features and colors and models.

Except... they do. 😛 But it is a nice case, regardless, although I bemoan the lack of front-panel USB on teh full-tower model. That's pretty useful for USB flash drives.

Is it just me or the case doesn't have a filter for the front. LMK since it's already missing a side fan 🙁

Chieftech does not have the filter in the front.
