I've heard things about this place. Supposed to be one of the "original pizza guys".

Yeah its just as awesome as Girodanos. They have super extra crunchy/crispy crust instead of the soft style that Giro's uses.

And if you go there you also have to get a dessert pizza as it is mandatory.

I'd just go with Giordano's myself. Malnati's is good, though.

After living in Chicago I can vouch for the awesomeness that is Pequods. However, I lived about a mile and a half from a Lou Malnatti's so I would usually eat there. If you want to try a "new" chain of awesome deep dish pizza, I'd look for Vichinos. Avoid Gino's like the plague, it's tasteless garbage compared to the other choices.

Just be aware that deep dish is pricey, and that a pizza with a few toppings can easily run you $25 or so.

I have to say that for a town known for it's Pizzas, like NYC or Chicago, you'd think you could go to any decent looking Pizza place and walk out happy. Hasn't been my experience, ymmv. Thus the bump, and bookmark for next time I'm traveling I'll revisit this thread.

That's what we did "on Rush St."....AWESOME as always. Took some frozen ones home too 🙂

The problem with the pizza cities is that since they're known for pizza, any yokel can open up a pizza joint and have success with all the tourists and pizza lovers. They don't have to be very good, but people will still try it at least once because it's pizza in NYC/Chicago... how bad could it be?

I loled when I was walking around in Chicago and saw the "Calafornia Pizza Company". I was like "WTF were they thinking?"

Lou Malnatis > Ginos East > Giordanos.... have had all three thats how i prefer them

Portillos chocolate cake is amazing...
Beuna Beef is great as well

I'm staying on N. Michigan Ave. this weekend. I LOVE (and by love, I mean would marry, have sex with, and create offspring with) Giordano's pizza. Their sausage, onion and mushroom deep dish is like a party in my mouth, and everyone is having an orgasm.

Are there any other pizza places I should be checking out in that area? I'm staying at the Intercontinental (across from Nordstrom) if anyone wants to drop in 🙂

The only correct answer:
You go to New York and get real pizza, not a bread bowl of sauce.

Lived in new york for a few years and never was really impressed with the pizza. 🙁

This reminds me...I LOL'ed in Giordano's because they have newspapers posted all over the walls from different eras. There was a recent New York Times article listed that ranked Giordano's as "The ultimate pizza".

That had to piss a lot of New Yorkers off 😀

Why arn't we recommending pizzeria uno or duo? I enjoyed uno...

Uno is actually pretty good. Even the chains around the country are very good. I've heard good things about Duo, but we were too far away.

I hope Uno from restaurants is leaps and bounds better than the frozen pizza that's made it's way to a few grocery stores around here.

Yeah, that was my first experience with them too. It's no comparison.

Back when I lived in Chicago, I used to be able to get frozen Lou Malnatis' pizza at the grocery store. It was like $9, but man was it good. A shame that no one in Columbus knows how to make good deep dish pizza, and especially not cheaply 🙁

Hands down...

Best deep dish pizza in the world. Supposedly they even use bacon grease for the pans which gives it a nice crunchy crust unlike most deep dish.

FYI: Get sausage...they layer it on in one giant slab on top. Nobody orders peperoni on pizza in chicago according to my family members that live there.

Edit: Didnt realize this was an old post...

Pizza is a man food.

When you want a pie go to the nearest.

It's like beer. You really can't fuck it up. Sure maybe you could have found a better one, but if you were hunting quality you'd just call your Centurion rep and have them find the best mother fucking place in the area and have a car pick you up.
