Chicago trip- Where do I get my pizza?

Fritzo

Lifer
I'm staying on N. Michigan Ave. this weekend. I LOVE (and by love, I mean would marry, have sex with, and create offspring with) Giordano's pizza. Their sausage, onion and mushroom deep dish is like a party in my mouth, and everyone is having an orgasm.

Are there any other pizza places I should be checking out in that area? I'm staying at the Intercontinental (across from Nordstrom) if anyone wants to drop in 🙂

Do not listen to those that say Malnatti's or Pizzeria Uno or Due.

Wrong. I went to Gino's East during my chicago trip and was quite disappointed. I mean it's good, but not as great as I expected from Chicago. Writing all over the walls was damn fun though.

I spent a night in that Intercontinental a few years ago. It's a nice place. Did you by any chance get it through Priceline? I think I paid something like $70 for a night 4 years ago.

I can't remember the name of the pizza place I liked in high school. When I went there in '05, I got pizza at Gino's East, because everyone raved about it. My wife and I didn't like it very much. I was bummed, because she had never been to Chicago and then we didn't get very good pizza. We did get it for free, but that was because they lost our order, and it took 1 hour and 40 minutes to get it.

Edit: Gino's wasn't bad, but it wasn't the awesome Chicago pizza I was expecting. It wasn't even what I would call Chicago style pizza. It was about half as thick as it should've been IMO.

Learn your grammar, then we'll talk. When you 'real Chicago' pizza is beaten by Old Chicago restaurant, then you're doing something wrong... and that's exactly how I felt about Gino's East. Honestly the pizza I got from Rosatti's in INDIANA was delicious and more 'chicago like' than Gino's East.

I've heard things about this place. Supposed to be one of the "original pizza guys".

Yeah its just as awesome as Girodanos. They have super extra crunchy/crispy crust instead of the soft style that Giro's uses.

And if you go there you also have to get a dessert pizza as it is mandatory.

I got the room for $77 on Priceline. Things haven't changed much 😉

Gino's does suck. Due, Giordano's, Chicago's...tons of places are much better than Gino's. All you have to do is try Gino's other "foods" when you realize that the quality is no better than Pizza Inn. It's really a sad, sad place.

Pequods on clybourn at Webster is my favorite pizza in the city. It's not by you on michigan ave, but the carmelized cheese crust is well worth the trip.

Get a thin crust. IMHO it is better than the deep dish style, that is all I ever ate as a kid since my dad hates deep dish.

The only correct answer:
You go to New York and get real pizza, not a bread bowl of sauce.

:cookie: to each his own, I've had most of those and enjoyed Gino's more. Never heard any complaints from those I know who've been there.
