Hey I'm doing a trip down to Milwuakee on Thursday. I'm going to be coming back down and want to know if someone can give me any detailed directions in Chicago on how to get back on highway 94 towards Canada.

Reason for the trip is, driving dad and friend to Milwuakee cause they bought a sailboat, and are sailing it to georgian bay, 1000 km trip. I know the general directions but just don't wanna get owned getting off the wrong highway ramps in Chicago or getting owned by collector lains.

Thx.

What time of day will you be driving through the city?

I am going to try for night time or early morning, my dad used to be a truck driver and said you could spend half the day stuck in traffic during rush hours. But honestly I don't really know, I'm going to be helping them out with last minute preparations on the boat, then when they are off I will start my journey back to Toronto.

take 94 south, follow 294 south. It will merge with 80 and then that will merge later with 94 again. then you are back on 94 on the way to Canada.

294 is a toll road. If you are looking to avoid "collector lanes" (I'm assuming that's what you mean) then you don't want to take 294.

No I don't mind collector lanes, I jus't don't want to get mixed up in a jumble of trying to get off or go on the right lane in the last minute. If I can go on the express 294 all the way down till it becomes highway 80 then it's all good. A toll road? You mean like I gotta pay for it? lol

There are quite a few tolls depending how you go through the Chicago area. Most of them are $0.80, but a few are $1.00. It is possible to avoid all of them, but that usually isn't the fastest way through the city.

But wouldn't the toll road be faster? Sometimes it's worth paying if he's going to be there during the rush.

Heck...in Chicago, it might be easier to drive to the outskirts and catch the train....then take it to the opposite side of the city and rent a car to continue the trip. :p

Yeah somebody got the bright idea that putting a tax on your gas isnt enough. They make you pay to drive on the road the tax on gas already paid for.

Amazingly people keep re-electing these people to office.

The tolls were supposed to pay for the roads and then leave once they were paid, but its a funny thing when you realize how many billions of dollars you make a year with something like that...

We have a highway like that too here in TO, 407, they made it and apperently are waiting till it pays itself off, but that's been a while now and looks like it won't be anytime soon. But you can bypass the electronic toll taker by putting a special face plate over your liscense plate or by just driving real slow through the ramp and the camera won't think anything of it :)

But the one thing that you want to remember is that even though 94 is an East-West road(the number is even) between Chicago and Milwaukee West=North and East=South.

Having grown up out west I find it amusing that somebody from Wisconsin of all places is using the term "flatlander" as a derogatory term. Your glacially-scoured state has no significant elevation to speak of.

Oh and htey have these things called "maps" both hard copy and electonic (online! with detailed directions!)

But yes you're right traffic can (and is) a B!tch anywhere areound Chicago. If you find a way to avoid it, make a movie or write a book about it. You'll be famous.

That doesn't make his comment any less amusing.

This flatlanders subject is a hoot. Here in Colorado the people who live in the mountains call people who live by the front range in the foothills, flatlanders.:D

Whoaa just got back from Milwaukee, what a mad trip. Going there we got stuck in the most insane traffic I have ever witnessed in my life. I thought Toronto was bad in rush hour, but going through Chicago at 5 thursday afternoon was just retarded. Coming back I made sure to go through it at night time. Thx for all the directions, I took 94 south through chicago then 94 east all the way till I 69 all the way into Canada :)

btw American highways > Canadian highways

also the drivers seem to be better in the states, i had zero retards cutting me off or doing stupid shit, even driving around downtown milwaukee. Whereas I cross the border into Canada just to get owned by idiots cutting me off etc...
