Every time I hear one of these white people downtrodden stories--especially white males, and my white male coworkers likes to scour the internet for them--I just hear the peasant from Monty Python: "Help, help I'm being repressed!"
Affirmative action type stuff is imperfect, it's a swing back from decades and centuries where things were completely one-sided against minorities. We hired a black female at work that frankly was very under-qualified, and hired her over more qualified white male candidates. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why that was done. It sucks but I also understand why it is done. You can't just fix centuries of injustice overnight, especially not with the attitudes that many old white males still have. I'm one myself, I'm around them all the time, so I feel pretty qualified to say this.
