Never expected Mariano Rivera to ever lose a 9th inning game 7 lead.
Never expected a monkey to ever win.
Never expected a $50m payroll to ever beat a $160m payroll.
Never expected the Red Sox to ever win.
Never expected the White Sox to ever win.
Never expected an 83 win team to ever win.

Nope, don't expect the Cubs to win either. ;)

Never let it be said that this diehard Brewer fan isn't gracious in losing.

Congrats Cubs and the Cubs fans out there. You answered the call after the first quarter of the games and kept the pressure on my Brewers throughout the year. I still can't imagine why Yost kept Cappy in the rotation down the stretch.

It was great while it lasted though. I hadn't been this excited this late in the season since 1982. We need more pitching. Cappy has to take the off season to find out where his mechanics got messed up. His failure to win down the strech is Enkielesque.

It was the Brewers who got the Cubs into the playoffs in '03 by beating up on the Astros in the final weekend. :D The Sausages even came down to Waveland to celebrate.

What happened with Capuano? Every time he faces the Cubs he's the freakin' reincarnate of Cy Young! Pitched against the Cubs 3 times last year, racked up 26 scoreless innings...

But there's something still unsatisfying about a $100m payroll just barely able to compete against a $70m payroll, with the highest paid player injured... gotta hand it to the Brewer's youngsters. Heh, Mark Prior isn't even factored into that salary number, he got $3m to never set foot on the field.

Oh, and Cubs fans also have to give another big thanks to Bud Selig for blocking the trade of Jacques Jones to the Marlins for a bag of balls. He came up big in the second half. Still can't throw the ball anywhere near a cutoff man, but had many big rbi hits.

hope the cubs win the WS, that town deserves it

that town already won a WS

the cubs are chicago's team, atleast that is what i saw when i lived there

unfortunately true, but if you subtracted the cubs 'fans' who can't name more than 3 players on the team and go there to party, then there'd be more sox fans.

05' may be in the past, but the feeling you get from seeing that as a diehard fan is something you never forget and something no cubs fan will ever feel, so it doesn't matter to me :)

Then subtract out the White Sox fans who know exactly how many losses the Cubs have on the season, yet can't even ballpark how many wins the Sox have - and the numbers flip once again in the Cubs favor.

hmm, not really. Not too hard to remember that the cubs are in the worst division in baseball and only have to clear 500 by a game or 2. Sox are in the battle for the basement, currently 2 games up.

congrats, the Cubs spent $300M to buy a playoff contender in the one of the worst divisions and squeaked in. Woohoo!

Yes, really.

It's not like your generalization fits me. I can list off the full 24-man Cubs roster, and also the starting lineup for the White Sox, starting rotation, and most of the bullpen. It's the internet here, so unfortunately I can't show off because we all know any of use can just look it up. But trust me, I get my daily sports news, my wakeup alarm is set to The Score.

Cubs making the playoffs means I'll be watching some baseball for the first time in many years. :p

Man ... the Cubs are lifeless in the clutch .... bases loaded, count 3 & 1 .... weak swing & double-play inning over....

This is just sad! :(

Edit: Stick a fork in em ... they're done!

Who's going to look worse when they are swept out of the first round, Cubs or Yanks.

Although its got to hurt for any team to be swept in the first round, anyone who watched a lot of baseball this season had to have seen the Cubs being made short-work of coming before this seris even started, so because expectations should have been low going in it won't be a total disaster.

The Yankee's on the other hand were the pick of many including myself to win the American league (if not the WS), have by far the highest payroll in baseball with their star-studded lineup and to top it off have the most spoiled fanbase in professional sports ... if they go out to Cleveland in 3 straight its going to be bad.

( hehe! :p )

I'll be very surprised if the Angels don't get at least one game & I wouldn't count the Yankees out just yet... they could easily win 3 straight from the Indians.

Philly also has a punchers chance later tonight, although their pitching staff is being exposed for the weak link it is.
