CHICAGO: Anyone going to the computer show tomorrow?

Just recently found out about this.

I figured I'd go and check it out. Anyone have any experience with this show? E.G. good prices, nice people, etc?

been there every year for the past 5 or so years. Decent deals, but you still have to hunt for the good stuff. People are nice, except when they are assholes. (I got accused of stealing 3 years ago by a "alternative lifestyle" vendor who didn't like my comments about how he was just trying to rip people off by selling them stuff that would not work knowing that returning something was next to impossible)

They definately have a lot of stuff there. Older stuff is overpriced. At least that's how it was the last time I went. You have to be careful with what you buy though. Check out guarantees and if they accept returns. A friend got burned on two hard drives at the last show. I used to go all the time, but now I find it easier to just buy online.

I have been going to that computer show and the "giant computer show" at the Dupage county fairgrounds since about 94 or 95. I built my first PC in 96 from parts i bought at a comp show. i bought my Abit Bh6 and Celeron 300A at one of those computer shows at the College of dupage. I havent been to one in a year or so, however I do remember the one at the COD was a LOT better than the one at the fairgrounds.

I've been to the show a few times at COD and it was okay at best. You get much better deals online, and you don't have to pay the $5 or whatever to get in when you shop at Newegg.

There are a lot of crappy companies that sell crappy products at high prices there. Just think twice before you buy something, because they'll try to make it look like something you want, when in reality it isn't.

If you go to this show, just remember that the prices drop a little when it gets closer to the end of the show at around 3PM. At least you can hold stuff in your hand that you read about or see online at new egg or some other website. You can also interact with other geeks and get advice and their experiences with components. Bring cash and be sure to look around for the best deals. remember the prices drop lower towards the end of the show.

Maybe towards then end you could talk your way down on a product that there's an excess amount of, but that's about it.

I've been to lots of shows in the area.

The one @ COD is mediocre. LOTS of older hardware. Some vendors just plain blow. The prices on some stuff is decent, but much better deals can be had online. I'd go for accessories, but nothing major.

NEVER go to the show @ the Donald Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, it's the worst ever.

Indeed.. I knew I was in trouble when the first two vendors I saw were knife and sauage salesmen. An idiot selling slot machines, and an illegal nintendo clone.. At least I got to heckle some swindler introducing XP at the time

This is a certified presentation for Microsoft. The boys from Microsoft came down here and saw our presention and approved it.
Oh boy did I try to get my $7 worth.. and failed miserably.

When you are there, most of the suckers are Ebayers you see at the other end of the transaction. You can strike up a conversation by mentioning the wholesale/newegg/AT price as some nut sells 300% retail.
