There is a very long history of comparing blacks to animals. With that context in mind, yes it is racist.

What does a clay head that grows plants have to do with animals?

They also have Chia animals. It's the same reason why TV is racist. They have the animal channel and BET. With that context in mind, TV is very racist.

There's a long history of comparing the Irish to animals as well, where was McCain's race card?

It's not the same, and you know it. In the US, Africans have been bought, sold, bred for physical strength and exhibited in zoos (as recent as 1906, google Ota Benga).

And no one alive ever did or saw that.

Is this your excuse for every failure in life? Isn't your race card getting horribly worn and tattered by now? Wouldn't all the energy you exert whipping it out all the time be better spent elsewhere?

Midgets of all ethnicities were once showcased in carnival attractions.

It was popular also at a time before television where people of one isolated place had never seen anyone different than they were. Around the 1960's these things started to fade away as TV brought the world in to the home.

Today we are facinated with people who modifiy their bodies, yesterday people were fascinated or intrigued by people who did not look the same as the 99.999999% majority around them. For the people of yesterday, It was sort of a cultural/ethnical display. Kind of like a very crude Epcot.
