<---regrets selling serial killer cargo van on a daily basis :(

Get an HHR panel truck and put SS parts on it. That'll tweak people real good.

Curse you, I love real panel vans (no windows) had no idea Chevy made one like that.

Just looked on Chevrolet's web site, sigh, I've sworn off new cars, maybe I can scrounge up a used one...

Somebody around here has a 50s panel (could be delivery van, it's always driving the opposite direction on the freeway) that they've put a huge lift on. I'm anxious so see what it looks like once it's actually painted (it's been primered for at least a year)

I also think it's funny that you like panels but complain about the window pillars on the HHR :p

We're not going to discuss my kills while backing up FS vans & pickups :)

I've always loved panel vans, hate the way they look with windows, and I think the windows on the HHR look particularly bad, more like portholes than windows.

Uh, its not a pickup. You're thinking of the SSR which is a miserable, ugly, underpowered POS.

I'd hardly call 400hp and a 6spd underpowered in the SSR - even at its portly weight.

HHR is the PT Cruiser knock-off (I don't care what GM claims). I have a hard time believing GM would actually produce a small car like this that performs well. Ah well, still ugly as sin.

Why is it so hard to believe? They built the Cobalt SS, which was an awesome performer - one of the best in its class.

Someone needs to put down the haterade - or at least do some reading.
I'll give props where props are due.

Firstly, I'll admit that I didn't know they finally gave the SSR some balls. Still ugly as sin though.

Secondly, the Ecotec is a great motor. Still wouldn't buy a Cobalt, of any variety.

that S4 must be a B5 generation, because the current S4's (B7 based) use a 4.2L 314 V8 (de-tuned RS4 engine).

nice drivetrain and suspension but it still can't outrun its own ugliness.

Turbo>>>>>Supercharge

The Cobalt would have been a much better performer and easier to mod if it was turbo.

Ugh, I still can't believe people buy these things. I had a rental last year when I was in Alaska, it was horrid. I can safely say I'd rather drive my first car (86 Tercel Wagon) over that roving POS.

my god, that is one hideous looking car! Someone please put that fat-lipped POS of it's misery. What the hell were they thinking? Who in their right mind would want that?!?!? I don't care if it goes fast, it's still ugly as sin and a blatant PT ripoff.

I rented an HHR for 10 days on a business trip, and although it is almost unholy looking, it's a nice little car... truck... thing... It's got lots of room, it sits up nice and high, and it's peppy enough to get around.

They make it in a sport orange color. That'll throw you for a loop.

I'm thinking about buying one to replace my 1995 Mazda 626.

Chevrolet claims the SS package is good for a 0-to-60-mph time of 6.3 seconds and a quarter-mile jaunt in 14.8 seconds at 98.5 mph. With a manual transmission, the HHR SS reportedly has a top end of more than 150 mph. During testing, the HHR SS pulled 0.85 g on the skid pad and lapped the ?Ring in 8:43.52.

For comparison purposes:

# 8:40 - Chevrolet Corvette C5 automatic, 344 PS/1505 kg (sport auto 07/97)
# 8:42 - Audi S4 265 hp [citation needed]
# 8:42 - Lotus Exige, sport tires (Sport Auto 11/00)
# 8:43 - Chevy HHR SS turbocharged.
# 8:47 - Honda Civic Type-R (Sport Auto 11/01)

That car is hideous. We had one as a loaner car overnight a while back and while it felt like a fairly solid vehicle it is not anything that I would ever own. And I only drove it around the block so I wasn't able to form any lasting opinion of it other than it looks like a half melted box on wheels.

Oh, and with a 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds I have a difficult time believing that it was one second slower around a 12+ mile road course than the Exige. Hell, a stock Elise will do 0-60 in under 5 seconds.

Wow, a mainstream Chevy 'pickup' that runs the Nürburgring next to a Lotus, Audi, and Corvette.

I wish it was sufficient for the "American cars are only good in a straight line" biased myth to subside, but we know it won't be. For some reason people think we still build Model Ts or something.

Yeah, that myth still exists, but it has proven to be just that...a myth. Only the import fanboys still preach that. There are fewer of them every year, but the ones that remain just get louder and louder.

That being said, it would be nice if we had a REAL car that served the same niche as the old model T. Something that everyone can afford easily, that is easy to repair, and that is of simple design. One can only wait and hope...
