Chevrolet claims the SS package is good for a 0-to-60-mph time of 6.3 seconds and a quarter-mile jaunt in 14.8 seconds at 98.5 mph. With a manual transmission, the HHR SS reportedly has a top end of more than 150 mph. During testing, the HHR SS pulled 0.85 g on the skid pad and lapped the ?Ring in 8:43.52.

For comparison purposes:

# 8:40 - Chevrolet Corvette C5 automatic, 344 PS/1505 kg (sport auto 07/97)
# 8:42 - Audi S4 265 hp [citation needed]
# 8:42 - Lotus Exige, sport tires (Sport Auto 11/00)
# 8:43 - Chevy HHR SS turbocharged.
# 8:47 - Honda Civic Type-R (Sport Auto 11/01)

Nice! I've been waiting to see if they went the SS route with the HHR. I'm surprised they went the Turbo route with the GXP drivetrain vs. the Supercharged 2.4L from the Cobalt.

-Adjusts your mirrors properly

-Just because you think it's ugly doesn't mean everyone else does. If you ask me those Asstek stylist weren't taken back and shot, they just went over to Toyota.

Wow, a mainstream Chevy 'pickup' that runs the Nürburgring next to a Lotus, Audi, and Corvette.

I wish it was sufficient for the "American cars are only good in a straight line" biased myth to subside, but we know it won't be. For some reason people think we still build Model Ts or something.

seriously. that looks like something fugly from hell, and the from hell part isn't a compliment. and look at the size of those windows.

also notice how the lap times you're using are all for cars 6+ years old (and you're comparing auto to the HHR SS's manual...).

3rd post (keep scrolling for more times) shows some lap times. this car ties the Integra Type-R. the golf beats it. nothing against the car, i just think you're giving it too much credit.

Am I giving it too much credit or are you not giving it enough credit?

Also I would like to mention that the Exige listed is the first generation model with only 170HP, IIRC. Newer ones run significantly faster.

Uh, its not a pickup. You're thinking of the SSR which is a miserable, ugly, underpowered POS.

HHR is the PT Cruiser knock-off (I don't care what GM claims). I have a hard time believing GM would actually produce a small car like this that performs well. Ah well, still ugly as sin.

yeah, the PT Cruiser is bad enough... then GM went and made the HHR uglier than dog shit.

When the SSR got the LS2 and T56 manual it lost a lot of it's slowness.

Get an HHR panel truck and put SS parts on it. That'll tweak people real good.

Curse you, I love real panel vans (no windows) had no idea Chevy made one like that.

Just looked on Chevrolet's web site, sigh, I've sworn off new cars, maybe I can scrounge up a used one...

Somebody around here has a 50s panel (could be delivery van, it's always driving the opposite direction on the freeway) that they've put a huge lift on. I'm anxious so see what it looks like once it's actually painted (it's been primered for at least a year)

I also think it's funny that you like panels but complain about the window pillars on the HHR :p

I'd hardly call 400hp and a 6spd underpowered in the SSR - even at its portly weight.

Why is it so hard to believe? They built the Cobalt SS, which was an awesome performer - one of the best in its class.

Someone needs to put down the haterade - or at least do some reading.
