I rented a 05 monte carlo, it wasn't a "piece of crap" at all, it needed to be RWD though

Same way they have for decades...in a 30 year old Japanese car/pickup with the headliner falling down and 10 years worth of dirt and scratches on it. Duh.

Only the most wealthy Mexicans can afford a 80's Monte Carlo.

I just remembered...A few years back, I had a rental Monte Carlo when I was in Phoenix. I took it for a drive up in the mountains (I'm from the midwest, never driven in the mountains) and wound up roasting the brakes/rotors trying to slow down going downhill. The slightest touch of the brakes resulted in a violent vibration of the steering wheel. Never did get charged for it, just turned in the keys and left it at the airport parking garage. I always wondered what the guy who rented it after me thought

I'm really getting tired of the old names for vehicles coming back on new cars. You always geta bunch of whiners complaining how it's crap compared to the original - even though it trumps the original in every performance, comfort, etc. category that you can think up.

My wife always wonders why I keep the Z28, C4, and GTO clean and never bother to clean our Monte Carlo SS. I hate the car! It's a very depenable grocery getter and that's about all it has going for it.

Word is that we might be seeing a Chevelle on the global RWD platform replacing it.

I'd say it's more an amusing generalization. :p

Rac·ism:

1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

I would add:

4. the most misused word in the english language, frequently thrown around by high school and college students with little thought or consideration of the actual meaning.

I can't think of a single redneck I've seen driving any of this generation of Monte Carlo...

Amusing to you because you're not Mexican or of Mexican origin.

Are you not making generalizations about a race in a demeaning fashion to prove that they are not as good as the other races represented in the U.S.?

Nope. I was making a generalization about some Mexicans based on personal observation in order to make people laugh. I know many people of hispanic decent and I'm pretty sure most of them would have gotten a chuckle out of it.

Go down to Mexico sometime. I haven't lied or distorted the truth here. There are plenty of redneck white trash that drive the same kind of cars and I would make the same joke about them too if it were in the context of this thread.

I don't think I'm superior to or have a right to rule others.

Bottom line, you lose...racism not proven.

The Model T! Yeah, they haven't brought those back yet!

P.S.

If someone links to a company or 5 that does make them for collectors I will go insane and I will take you with me.

Ford never killed off the Mustang...

Oh, and the Monte Carlo is a total piece of crap...has been for decades.
How many decades? I had a 1975 I bought new that I later sold to a friend. He drove it for 16 years with nothing other than routine maintenance. I drove it for 3 years prior.

At least 2 decades...certainly all through the 90s up to present day anyway.

I'd say some time in the 80s.

You're telling me to go down to Mexico? My family comes from Mexico and I visit occasionally. You should go further south into Mexico than just T.J., which is a horrible representation of Mexico as well as all the retard illegals that come over here.

You're right though, what you said could have been funny if I actually knew you personally. But since this is Anandtech and most people here see Mexicans as a lower life form my guard is usually up with these kinds of comments. So my apologies if you are in fact not racist towards Mexicans or any other race.

I based my statement on the actions of two of my cousins (Irish-Mexican descent) who bought Monte Carlos as their first cars and on the fact that almost all the Monte Carlos I see around here (Tucson) are driven by folks of Mexican heritage.

If we can't make fun of people based on race then what's the point of having all these races?
