Okay, let's see...it was a '94 Vette with roughly 80k miles on it. A co-worker of mine met me at a shop where I was dropping my truck off (2000 Toyota Tundra) to have a spray in bed liner put it (this was a couple years ago-I don't have this vehicle anymore). She asked me if I wanted to drive her boyfriend's car in so of course I said yes...I'm not an idiot. 😀

Anyway, we start out and I'm enjoying the low slung car and the powerful engine but at the first traffic light I put the left turn signal on and as soon as I do she warns me that it won't shut off unless I turn the car off (or something to that effect). This is really annoying and she apologizes but apparently this will cost no small amount of money to fix and it hasn't been a priority for them. Also, the windows and door panels shake and rattle over every bump and the rear view mirror vibrates so badly you cannot see vehicles behind you at speed. There were more problems with the car that they pretty much lived with (I can't recall exactly what at the moment but they were quite noticeable) but would have cost close to $4,000 to have fixed. Kind of reminds of a 1980s Jaguar my Mother-In-Law once owned.

No thanks. Chevy=Junk.

I guess if you didn't plan to drive it much and it was relegated to the status of garage queen it wouldn't be a bad car to own but personally, I'd much rather have a 350Z or better yet a Porsche 911. 😀

A 350 isn't even in the same class. 911s are exotics (borderline). Your powers of comparison are suck.

I wasn't comparing. I'd rather buy the less expensive 350Z or a used 911. Both could be had for less than a new Vette.

I'm mearly stating my opinion.

Your powers of observation suck.

So you're basing your scatology on the basis of one car.

Huh? Are you asking me if I'm basing my study of excrement on one car? WTF are you talking about?

I've actually driven a few different mid 90s Vettes, two stock and one modified.

Jules, your comparision skills are a bit rusty. Talking about the C4 Vette and calling all Vette's and Chevys crap is just borderline lunacy😉

The '94 Vette platform dated back to 1983. Hardly a banner year for structural rigidity or build quality. The C4 was actually the longest production cycle for the Vette nameplate. The C4 was KNOWN for its rattles and squeaks and problems.

The C5 TOTALLY changed all of that. The C5 was (is) a world class machine with an EXTREMELY stiff structure (one of the stiffest in its class) with a world class (bulletproof) powertrain. It's built solidy (minus the cheesy interior) and the Z06 will run circles around cars costing twice as much.

The C6 builds on the C5 formula by adding an even more powerful engine, sharper handling, and a sweet interior.

Stop dwelling on the past.

In all fairness, the late C3s (80-82) and most of the C4s were pretty unreliable long-term. Options can make a huge difference in long-term reliability as well; the Z51 handling package in specific upgrades most suspension and drivetrain-related items making them much more sturdy.

You get what you pay for applies to cars as well.

Well, I did admit that I hadn't driven a C5...I wonder if my boss would let me drive his Z06...

Yes, I can attest to the fact that the C4 sucked. I've actually driven them, unlike some people here who base their opinion of a car entirely on pictures. Truth is that only time will tell how well a car will hold up.

I also never said the drivetrain was bad. Just everything around the drivetrain.

Dude, I'm not a borderline lunatic. I just don't like Chevy's.

Also to add to the discussion, the C5 uses unique materials to increase chassis rigidity while reducing weight. An example would be fiberlgass (which they used back in the 60s too..which I thought was neat for the era) and balsa-wood (which they use now), as well as unique metal alloys.

That always interested me about Vettes; their ingenuity in choice of materials.

However, I don't think the C6 is the evolution to the C5, the way the C5 leap-frogged over the C4. Not thats a bad thing really.

STILL no roll-over protection?? How much is the vette? 50 large??

#1 reason for not buying a c6-steering wheel. Its unacceptable. Its a generic, god-awful, ugly-ass excuse for a steering wheel thats used in rental cars. Not something I'd want be touching for a long period of time. Its as bad a fondling a fat guys tits.

I heard that they come right out of the Buick Le-Crapre parts bin...

I'm going to bed now.

Goodnight.

Why is it that GM can't or won't make a decent interior for what is by most standards its flagship car, the Corvette? The GTO appears to have a relatively nice interior, yet would-be Vette buyers are still stuck with a crappy interior that would be disappointing in a V-6 E-body.

The interior of the C6s was supposed to be VASTLY upgraded over the C5.

The initial pics still look really crude compared to the GTO. I am a Corvette fan, and the C5 and C6 are clearly world-class in their capabilities, but it disappoints me that GM won't spend another couple of hundred dollars per car to fix the interior.
