They are getting one of the vette engines next year.

Kinda like PT Cruiser meets El Camino.

And, it's not meant to be practical, it's meant to be fun.

convertible hardtop is cool.

Saw a few of them on the road. Looks really sweet and I'd love to drive one around. Too bad it costs a bundle.

GM isn't having much luck with the SSR or the GTO.

This is so true, GM quite simply just does not get it. They are trying to revive their performance car line with crap that no one really wants because it is ugly and sometimes overpriced. Apparently they are trying to sell cars solely by their clever name badges. The GTO had the right performance, but it looks like a family car missing two doors.

Also nice to see that neither the GTO or SSR are even coming close to the (poor) sales of the Camaro before they killed it. They could not even keep the Camaro/Firebird alive even when it topped the Mustang in almost every area, so why not toss that out the window and try selling new crap to weary consumers? At least with the Camaro, they had something to work with.

I am not a huge Ford fan, but they did the right thing with the new Mustang. The car looks sporty, is pretty simple, and actually affordable to many people who would want one.

Never liked GM's, but they need to learn something from Chrysler and Ford. That is, if you go Retro, you need to make it Retro within the confines of Practicality. Few people will buy a car purely on "Artistic" merit.

The plant in Ingham County, near Lansing, will cut production from Jan. 3 through March 5. Salaried workers will report to work, while hourly workers will get unemployment and supplemental unemployment benefits totaling 95 percent of their net pay under terms of their United Auto Workers contract

Tough job they've got there, don't go to work for two months, but you still get 95% of your pay.

Actually, in Florida, the dealers were putting a "fair market value" price increase on them. I looked at one, MSRP said $44K and change + $25K fair market value, bringing the total to around $70K for a $42K vehicle. I should have taken a picture of the window tag. This was back in February.

Well stated.

You mean like the Thunderbird and the Prowler?

Actually there are people on the GM payroll that have been collecting SUBpay (supplemental unemployment benefits) for years not weeks.

We have the same benefit at American Axle and up until the last contract (about a year ago) you could go out and get another job and still collect your SUBpay.

Not a very smart way to run a business.

Sadly, though, this is all that most of those folks have. Car plants are strategically located in areas where they won't be able to find other sources of employment - so, taking such a "paid" vacation is their only option.

I saw one of these on the road a couple months ago. It was very eye-catching and thought it looked pretty cool. When I got home I looked it up to see what it was (had never heard of it before at that point). Then I saw the price-tag and any interest I had in it quickly vanished.

I'm not a chevy basher or anything, but I would NEVER pay $42,555 for ANYTHING made my chevy.

Not even the new 500hp Corvette Z06?

Nope. Don't doubt it's a good car, but that more qualifies under the "power I would never use" column.

At least they upped the power for 2005 (390-hp LS2 6.0L V8). If they lowered the price to around $30-$33K then maybe they would sell more. Dealerships around here are selling them for about $37K...still too high in my book.
