Howdy.I have an '89 Z-28 with a 350, and a '93 Pickup,Ext.Cab,4x4,Automatic(480LE),454TBI,Loaded.It has 73k miles.

I'm planning on replacing the Spark Plugs with 'Torquemaster' brand, and the wires with 'Magnecore' Brand.

Then I'd like to replace the ignition with a Jacobs 'Omni-Pack',new distributor, cap and rotor.

I want to add a dual-filter oil adapter, and use Amsoil brand synthetic oil.

Finally, I want to replace the oil pump&pickup,Oil pan (higher capacity w/diamond stripper windage tray),and add a Larger capacity aluminum Trans pan.

I'm not sure what you want to discuss but here is my side of the story.

I just bought some Edelbrock Aluminum heads from Joe Mondello for my 455 Olds engine. They have been cryogenically frozen and I also picked up some CC aluminum Roller rockers. I'm going to try to get the engine torn down ths weekend.

I believe that this is the "Off Topic" forum, Johnnyknoxville.I assume that this forum is for topics not specifically addressed in the other forums.

Stallion: 'Cyrogenically Frozen' aluminum heads? What is that? A way to stress-releive the aluminum?

I have been told it is done by Nascar for the purpose of exaxctly that, stress releif. Nascar used to "hot soak" heads then they went to the cryo freezing when they found out it worked better.

A guy at work explained it to me and I'm not exactly sure how it works but he said it does. Plus Joe mondello is "the man" when it comes to Oldsmobiles so if he said it works then I beleive him. :)

Go check out his site for little better understanding. Joe "Dr. Olds" Mondello

why bother with all that junk? Strap a power adder or some juice on it. You're not going to get any butt dyno results from what your doing.

boost or juice is where its at.

Any moron can slap a bottle on some piece of crap and pick up a few tenths and 150hp but why not make 450-475hp on the engine alone. That's real HP.

And while there is nothing better then a 6-71 sticking out the hood I like the stealth approach.

So why don't you enlighten me ,what do you drive? a 1973 hatch back Nova with a 307 and 400hp fogger set-up and a 2 step plate system.

I am in total agreement with your approach, stallion.Get all of the basics down, then you can always add nitrous or boost.I especially like the stealth approach. It's always a grin to blow someone's doors off, when they were least expecting it.Attracts less attention from the MAN,also.

I'll go to the link: I remember reading about Mondello and his Olds hi-per blocks years ago....amazing potential.

Guitronics, nice truck. The changes you've suggested are good ones, except that I wouldn't waste any money on those fancy spark plugs; they don't help anything. I know some people may argue this, but all those split fire, etc, don't do anything. A plug is simply a gap for the spark to jump. Period. If you have the proper heat range for YOUR vehicle, and the rest of your ignition is in good working order (coil, wires, etc), the high dollar plugs won't help.
I know of countless people who have tried them in their race cars and on the dynos and there is no power difference. The wires can help.

BTW, this is my truck

Anyone got any suggestions for my friend's Geo Metro. That baby has 3 smoking cylinders ready to turn that crankshaft.

(even though I'm serious...he does drive that...it was a joke)

You can't just add nitrous or boost to a motor built for NA. You'll need high compression, and a big cam to get near 500hp. Look at the vette motor. It's got everything possible thrown at a 350 block.

Build your motor for low compression, slap a big honking turbo on it and go.

You think those grand national 3.8's are slow??

More power=more $. If yer gonna go for dependability/durability, ya need to prep the block, use forged crank/pistons, and balance everything...+ or - .1 gram is what the $ guys go by.Once everything is bulletproof, THEN you can add cylinder pressure.

(If you want it to last awhile).BTW,small blocks have been made with 500+ cu.in., and twin turbo's, over 1000hp.

bah, screw all those mechanical upgrades...

I say get a bigass spoiler, drop the suspension a foot and a half, put in some clear tail lights and it'll be a beauty! ;)
