Hi,we are all interested in computer benchmarks, how fast is my computer and we know also that every computer have different configuration so i invite you all for a Chess Computer Benchmark. My meaning is to make a list from all the computer we have now because with the new upcomming processors(like the Intel Core 2 Duo,E6300,E6400,E6600,E6700,X6800) we will have a nice jump forward! Also with the comming from the Quad Core, till the planning 32 Core...

The downloads are for free, you can easy scan it with your virus-scanner,but they are safe!

Go to this link: http://www.playwitharena.com/

Click on the left site from the window on "Arena Downloads"
Then you will see "neu!/ new! small arrow Arena 1.99beta2 ZIP (1.19 MB):"
Click on the zipfile to download.

Go to this link:and download Toga II 1.2.1a (chessengine)

http://www.uciengines.de/UCI-Engines/TogaII/hauptteil_togaii.html

When you have download them somewhere on your computer you can unzip or unrar
Arena 1.99beta2 to a map you make (I create map "Arena") Just put all the files there!

When you open your Arena map you will see "Engines" click on it (open the map)
Create a new map like "TogaII"

Now unzip or unrar "Toga II 1.2.1a" to this map "TogaII"
Toga is your chessengine!

When this is done, you can make a shortcut from Arena to your desktop or just run the
Arena.exe file from your explorer. You will get your chessboard, now you have to load the chessengine to the interface!
1.click upstairs on "Engines"
2.Select "new engine"
3.You see a little window, must stay on "UCI" then click "OK"
4.Then you get a window like explorer, you have to go to the map Arena, and click further to "Engines" then "TogaII" then you will see TogaII ,just select it and accept it(open it)
5.Now the engine is loaded into the interface, you will see TogaII in left-down window.
You have now a full working chess program!

6.But i want to give you a test position,so how we do?
I give you a position, this position have to be copied to the chess programs Arena!

Here is the position code FEN:

8/8/4B3/8/8/3K4/p2p4/kN1N4 w - - 0 5

Copy this Fen code: and go back to Arena -> then just press "F6"

You will see now that your chessboard is changed with the position!

The final step:
1.You have your chessprogram + position and engine Toga loaded!
Click on "Levels"
2.Select "infinite"
3.Press on your space-bar
4.The computer begins to calculate

Now let your computer calculate till he find +M13 ,means he find Mate in 13 moves! (see 5th row)

You will see the lines scrolling fast in the beginning, how deeper he thinks how slower he will be,because the many possiblities and calculatings. The score is positieve(5th row),so you will see the score will go higher and higher, because in this situation it is a winning position for white, but for a chessprogram he needs time to find a Mate,in this position is it possible to find Mate in 13 moves,is the shortest one.But he will continue and always find then the same line with +M13 but goes deeper in Depth,he should find it around Depth 20...but if you let him do he will go to Depth 21,22....30,40...and so on,try to find a faster way to win!
So after the first time you see +M13 you can stop TogaII for further calculting, just click on stop(you can see it on the screen) Then everythings stops and you can easy write down the results or go to click on "Postion" and select "Copy Analyses to Clipboard" and just paste it in a message or send it by e-mail to me!Thanks!

Results i have for the moment:

1.Core 2 duo E6700 (+M13) Depth 20 in 00m51s!
2.Opteron 165 at 2.8ghz+2GB (+M13) Depth 20 in 00m59s
3.Dell XPS Gen2 laptop 2.26 Pentium M + 1.256Gb (+M13) Depth 21 in 01m:15s
4.Amd 3400+ 512Mb (+M13) Depth 20 in 01m22s (65Mb HT)
5.Amd t-bird 1.2ghz (+M13) Depth 21 in 04m18s
6.AMD ML-30 512mb (+M13) Depth 21 in 07m53s

Good luck to all!

Regards,JP

The best computer benchmark with chess is Crafty.

Robert M. Hyatt, Ph.D.
Associate professor of computer science
University of Alabama at Birmingham

He maintains the program, runs on linux/windows. Open source program at anonymous ftp to ftp.cis.uab.edu/pub/hyatt

It has built in benchmarking.

He runs the program ICC (chessclub.com) with the username Crafty.

Hi thecrecarc,
You must be from the kindergarden!
Do you know what spam is??
This what i give is a serious test for real computer testers, but i think you have a problem with it!Sorry for you if you don't like this, then just stay away with your comment please!

To imaheadcase,i know crafty for a very long time,it's a good program, but Rybka and togaII are top chess programs, and it is a test i want to do with these programs, with these programs i want to make a list! if i want a test with crafty i will do that also!
Some people i don't understand, have comments on everything..if you don't like something you leave it or put your own thing online...but okay i think some people are only busy with these kind of sending messages...

For more serious people i'am still looking for more results, where are the Conroe's,i thought the difference in time would be bigger?

JPQY, you are spamming. If you want to write programs, feel free, just stop posting links in this forum to it. You have a total of 12 posts at this site, and every one of them has pertained to your spamming. If you're wanting to advertise on this site, you're going to need to contact them directly. I'm not for sure of the e-mail address, but this one should work: address #1 or possibly this one: address #2.

Don't misunderstand me, though, YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE, WE DO NOT WANT YOUR SPAM. Was that clear enough for you?

Hi myocardia,i'am not writing programs,i'am not spamming, this is just a chess test and i give the people the possiblity to do this test,it is only one test, and i was thinking if many people are interested in that i can give so many test they want! I don't promote something, these are free programs, they are popular in the chessworld! My idea was, where can i find more people who can do a test,so i come to computer sites where i believe that people are interested in benchmarks and just try something else,so i'am wrong...
I think there must be a misunderstanding,i'am not working for someone or nobody get here advance from it,it's personal for me,it's my hobby,i do many chess testings,it's my way for benchmark a computer then only use the traditional benchmark (i like them all) i read for many month these forums, they are very interesting, but when i just come here with my hobby,a simple chess test i get comment to be a spammer???
I'am 40 years,i have no time for these things, sorry,my time go to my family, and my hobby is chess, that's it!

Sorry,if i have explain something wrong,my English is not perfect,i'am from Belgium!
We speak here Dutch,French and English...and you?

Regards,JP

Hmm, long time reader, first time poster, huh? Well, that's not what they say about you at Tom's Hardware forums: you being called a spammer at Tom's. It seems you posted there twice, for no other reason than to advertise your command line chess benchmark. Notice that you actually copied-and-pasted the same words to this forum. And this is the third time you've posted exactly the same thing here, too, and no other posts about anything besides your ignorant benchmark. That's called a forum spammer.

By the way, if you're such a programmer, try learning at least C++.

So,it means you are also registraded on diffenent forums and you just believe a kindergardens word?? If i want to put my personal test on 10 forums,is still my freedom to do that,if you don't like it,just leave...i just want to have results...if nobody want to try it,then okay,i stop with these tests,it was a trying to get easy results, what should i do,run to every computershop and ask if i can do my test here? I was very surpriced on Tom's Hardware,i get there no results, directly atack me for what?? Just a big kindergarden, tom should remove these kind of people, they are busy with spam...like you,you better support people, help each other, give good information,or let people do a simple test! On chess forums i don't find like these messages of you...i really don't understand this meanings from these messages...first time i post this message,it goes well and fast i get 5 answers, then i put me from forum General Hardware to CPU/Processor and i'am suddenly a spammer, just grow up boy,i get only 5 results,i say to myself if i put me on a other forum maybe i get more results,so it is normal i copy my test to that forum, because my first test was not finised,i needed more data, that's all!! I see here also many times the same thing,is it not normal that people ask the same question, not everybody is at the same day online or look to the same forum, like you,so i think you are the same man who disurb me and tell that i'am a spammer! Well you are a very nice man...i want to know what other people think of you!Platinum Member post 2453 messages...very good man...where is your information on this site, what for input you give here, have you ask a interesting question here?
I hope that not many people will follow your way off communication, and i will search for a other forum where they are polite to people,it looks like i'am the first chessplayer who comes here to computer forums, but it was not a good experience, thanks to the nice guys!!

Regards,JP
