CherryOS

LMAO, he really is. It looks to work exactly like PearPC (from the demo video), so I bet you that its really just PearPC with a nice GUI installation.

I guess I'll check it out tonight. It'll be interesting to see if my A64 3200+ system is faster than my G4 1.5Ghz Powerbook. Hopefully it won't nuke my windows install.

I heard that Apple came up with Mac OSX for x86, but this is pretty darn interesting. I love mac OSX (mmmm.....unix GUI goodness) but hate the hardware. Sure, it can't run MANY programs, but you can download movies from LimeWire with impunity-most malware wo'nt run on the mac!

Anyone found a review?

What?

Wait.

What?

Yes, there is and always has been a copy of OSX on the x86 platform. Apple has been developing it alongside their currect Mac editions...I believe it was called project Marklar(sp?). The only way we'll ever see it on x86, however, is if Apple starts tanking, which by their latest earnings, itsn't gonna happen for quite awhile...

i've heard rumors of that too. on the other hand, darwin has been ported to x86 more as a sanity check on the code.

Apple ought to release Marklar on dual-opteron and A64 systems. I can't see how apple could object, as they have to buy stuff from IBM anyway, and it would work very nicely for AMD. Besides, all they have to do is have some motherboard-specific drivers, and it wo'nt run on a non-"mac". I, for one, would pay good money for it (I.E. a 3000+ equipped AMD64 box with 256mb of RAM and a 9600 for about a grand)

First, the price would be raised by a good amount. Second, you'd have absolutely no 3rd party payware to look forward to.

Why can't they make the transistion to a mainly software company? It looks very much like they are on that track anyway..

It works for Microsoft...

How does it appear that they are on track to mainly a software company? What do you mean be "mainly" software?

Why not sell their OS for $400 like MSFT does..

They are comming out with huge amounts of software.. now if they could start charging for it somehow, you'd have Microsoft Jr.

Right now all their software efforts are just to make their hardware more attractive..
