I don't see a problem with this. If the "freedmen" aren't Cherokee...why should they get the benefits of tribal membership?

Why that's just as stupid as giving benefits to illegal immigrants...ah shit...waidaminit.

how is that any different than unaccepting black people from america? or unaccepting you from this forum?

also, reported

Reported? Go fuck yourself...gawd-damned fucking moron.

The various indian tribes have the rights to set their own rules for tribal membership. What part of that don't you get?

They have "Sovereign Nation" status as "nations within a nation."

That's unfortunate. Cherokees took them as slaves, then accepted them as tribe.

Now they're saying, 'Whoops, you were just slaves. And our appreciation for anything you've done to help and support our tribe since you've been part of it (and before you were a part of it, while we owned you) has just been revoked.'

I say F-U Cherokee Supreme C*cks. That's a sh!tty way to roll over on your own tribe mates.

Sounds like a great time to end the tribal system, which was made for a different era, American Indians are our brethren and should be treated as such.

Dissolve government involvement in the tribal system and end Indian reservations as we know them. Reorganize the tribes as non-profit foundations in trusteeship of the tribal lands to distribute among members (or share) as they see fit. Tribal land can then be treated as any other privately owned land within the border of its state.

I agree 100%. We have handicapped the Indian Nations with welfare and various government programs to the point that they are nearly helpless. With very few exceptions the only Indians that are doing well at all are the Lumbee Indians which have not been under any government programs and have had to work and think for themselves.

Link: http://64.38.12.138/News/2011/000968.asp

"Now here comes John Stossel, fellow WND columnist, over the weekend of March 26 with one of the best pieces in television history: "Freeloaders," a Fox News special delivering stomp-down proof that Indian tribes that are not recognized as tribes by the government and get no federal handouts are more successful than those on the federal dole. Stossel visited the Lumbee tribe of North Carolina, whose members get nothing from the government. They're generally successful in business. Many live in luxury mansions. In contrast, the Indians embraced by the feds live in what look like tar-paper shacks.

In boxing, John Stossel's interview with Elizabeth Homer, who used to be the government nanny of the recognized tribes, would have been canceled as a mismatch or halted on a TKO early in Round 1. She was pitifully unable to defend government stewardship over Native Americans as anything but the failure of socialism.

Well there are hardly any full-blooded Indians left in this country. Considering they were the victims of genocide I'm going to give them a little room to preserve their identity.

or unaccepting you from this forum?

LOL maybe you're just trolling?

Dude, what part about they are not Cherokee do you not understand?

This was a Government deal forced down their throats along with the Trail of Tears.

They have ungodly amounts of money now thanks to Casinos and the U.S. Government can't touch them so they are doing whatever they want to now and the U.S. can't stop them.
